Biography

Ray Kon — Rei in Japan — is the calm centre of the Bladebreakers, a technically gifted blader from a remote Chinese mountain village who left his clan, the White Tigers, to see how the rest of the world played. That choice haunts the Asian Tournament, where his old friends treat him as a traitor and Driger briefly abandons him; he rebuilds the bond, wins back the clan's respect and settles in as the team's most reliable finisher. Philosophical and yin-yang-coded, he balances real confidence against real humility, and he mentors the others while doubting himself once White Tiger X is his to lead in G-Revolution. Driger evolves repeatedly — S, F, V, V2, G and MS — and almost every new form arrives after a loss, including the second time the Saint Shields take the bit-beast off him. The claw moves that come with it, Tiger Claw and Gatling Claw among them, make him one of the franchise's outstanding attack bladers, and G-Revolution finally gives him his long-postponed one-on-one with Kai.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Black hair down to his calves, bound in a red and white wrap, and gold eyes with slit pupils. He wears a white changshan over a blue shirt with a red sash, a red headband carrying the yin-yang, and flat kung fu shoes. His eyes shift to copper in V-Force and back to gold in G-Revolution, where the animation leans further into the cat. The build stays lean and flexible, which the series puts down to training with the White Tigers.

Calm and open-minded, and the one the first season sends people to for advice. The yin-yang he wears is the fair description: collected and fiercely competitive at once, two halves that need each other rather than cancel out. He is polite and easy with strangers, and he refuses to look away from the difficult thing — Kai walking out in Russia, losing Driger, realising he cannot stay with the Bladebreakers. Where he and Lee split is doctrine: Lee holds that mastering the moves the village already has beats chasing new ones, and Ray left to learn new ones anyway.

Story by season

Where the seasons take them

Beyblade (2001)

Bladebreakers (formerly White Tigers)

A near-effortless win over Tyson using Driger's Tiger Claw announces Ray as a serious talent, and after conceding their decisive match out of respect he signs on with the newly formed Bladebreakers. The Asian Tournament turns personal: his old White Tiger teammates treat his departure as betrayal, a rattled battle with Kevin costs him Driger outright, and only a hard-fought win over Lee finally settles the grudge and mends the friendship. Russia is worse. Bryan's Falborg tears into him with an intensity none of the earlier fights matched, and though Driger saves him from the Demolition Boys, the bit-beast vanishes again and leaves Ray hospitalized until Tyson's own battle with Tala calls it back.

Beyblade V-Force (2002)

Bladebreakers

Teaching kids back in his home village, Ray gets blindsided by a cloaked Joseph of the Saint Shields before Team Psykick's threat pulls him back to the Bladebreakers. His fight with Salima turns into an argument about what Cyber Driger has corrupted in her beliefs, one he wins on both fronts. Dunga strips Driger from him a second time, shaking his confidence badly, and it takes fighting alongside Kai against Dunga and Joseph together to win the bit-beast back for good. Paired with Kai for the tag tournament, Ray ties Gordo in the semi-finals, but Zeo's win over Kai knocks them both out short of the final.

Beyblade G-Revolution (2003)

White Tiger X

Choosing his old clan over the Bladebreakers, Ray captains White Tiger X into the new tag format, and his long-deferred one-on-one with Kai finally happens, a battle that leaves both of them spent. Word that Tyson has defected to BEGA is enough to pull Ray away from his own team a second time, and he goes with Mystel to learn what BEGA actually is rather than take the rumor on faith. Uncovering Boris behind the new league sends him straight back to the reformed G Revolutions, and by the Justice 5 he is grinding out an attrition battle against Crusher as part of the alliance trying to bring BEGA down.
