Description

The blade Ray brought out of his mountain village along with the White Tiger clan's guardian spirit. Driger S fights like its owner: patient, precise, then explosive, with the Tiger Claw raking an opponent's ring at the moment it commits. Its story is the emotional core of the Asian tournament, as Driger leaves Ray after his loss of confidence and only returns when he makes peace with his old teammates. The blade is retired for Driger F after the team's training retreat.

The first Beyblade in the Driger line, Driger S carried Ray Kon through the original Beyblade anime and manga before he moved up to a newer top, built from the Driger Bit Chip, the Tiger Defenser Attack Ring, the Eight Heavy Weight Disk, a right-turning Spin Gear and the mode-switching Metal Change Blade Base. Takara and Hasbro reissued it repeatedly, including through the Phantom Force line, and it later placed among the finalists voted on to become a remake for the Beyblade X series.

Part by part

Parts in detail

Combo built around the highly influential Tiger Defenser Attack Ring, Eight Heavy Weight Disk, Right Spin Gear, and Metal Change Base.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Tiger Defenser 3.6 g Left & Right (top-tier in both) A compact ring with strong, edge-focused weight distribution, widely regarded as one of the best-designed Attack Rings of the generation and a template later rings tried, and largely failed, to match. Its single-piece build makes it harder for opponents to get underneath than its frequent rival War Lion, a broadly comparable part often coming down to preference. In Right Spin its slight slopes and well-angled contact points give a touch of offense with extremely low recoil, making it the premier Spin-Stealing choice and a top-tier pick for essentially every Stamina and Defense archetype; in Left Spin it carries somewhat more recoil but still keeps ahead of Gyro Defense for Defense, Survival, and Compact roles, though a few alternatives can edge it out on pure recoil there.
Weight Disk Eight Heavy 15.3 (Regular Mold) / 15.5 (Indent Mold) g Outclassed by the heavier Ten Heavy for the same roles and by Heavy Attack when protected from contact; still has marginal use in Compact builds for its slightly-above-Heavy weight and lower recoil.
Spin Gear Right Spin Gear Shells (Spin Gear Shells) 1.1 each, plus an optional 1.12 Metal Weight Gear g Right The standard shell type, incompatible with Neo Cores; Neo Shells are generally preferred for broader core compatibility. The optional Metal Weight Gear reduces wobble and adds slight weight but isn't required for legality.
Spin Gear Regular SG Core Part (Spin Gear Core) 0.61 g The second-lightest core overall (just behind Wyborg's Auto Change core part), incompatible with certain Magne-System bases whose tip shafts are too wide for its hole. Paired with Neo shells it produces one of the lightest possible setups, theoretically ideal for most Attack types not needing a gimmicked SG, though the practical difference from other options is usually too small to matter.
Blade Base Metal Change Base 5.1 g Its Metal Change tip varies movement pattern by launch style and blends attack with survival traits, catching the tornado ridge unusually well for good defense. It's the most aggressive of the plastic-era Change tips and needs practice to control into a tight flower pattern; the tip itself wears quickly for a metal tip and should never be used outside a proper stadium. Its ridge-catching defensive capability is considered underrated.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

In play and in the story

Community consensus treats Tiger Defenser and the Metal Change Base as versatile, widely useful parts capable of beating many other tops with little or no further customization.

  • Reissued by Hasbro as part of the Phantom Force line after its original run.
  • Awarded in gold and Gold SonoKong finishes as a tournament prize.

The competitive view

Driger Slash is a 15th-Anniversary Burst-System Energy Layer adapting the Plastic Generation's Tiger Defenser Attack Ring and Driger Bit Chip, keeping the elliptical shape and twin winged tiger heads but making the layer thicker, the wings more compact, dropping the Upper Attack slopes, and fusing the 'chip' permanently. It carries four teeth, one medium and three unusually tall, tall enough that the layer is reported to occasionally stick between clicks.

Its elliptical shape's acute-angled contact points keep recoil below Valtryek V2's despite looking heavy-recoil, but this same low recoil costs it Stamina versus layers like Neptrius and Wyvron; in Defense, e.g. the setup Driger Slash Heavy/Gravity/2Glaive Defense/Orbit, its shape hooks and causes Attack-type opponents like Valtryek and Xcalius to self-Burst against its own strong Burst resistance, and it can partially counter Doomscizor D2 by catching its compact blades.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Driger Slash's low recoil makes it unsuited for Attack, and while its once-notable niche countering the now-banned Doomscizor D2 has faded, its strong teeth and Burst resistance still make it a worthwhile collection piece.
