Description

Kenny's mid-tournament rebuild of Dragoon G, handed over as the World Championship finals begin. The Turbo engine gear can be triggered on demand rather than firing automatically, which lets Tyson time his storm attack precisely against F-Dynasty and then against Kai. Dragoon GT carries Tyson through the tag rematch with Julia and Raul and the two-episode final with Dranzer G, the fight that settles the trilogy's central rivalry and gives Tyson his third world title.

Takara released Dragoon GT as a starter in Japan in June 2003 for 980円, the seventh top in the Dragoon line and the successor to Dragoon G within the Engine Gear System. It carried Tyson Granger through Beyblade: G-Revolution and the manga until he traded it in for Dragoon MS, and its build combines a Dragoon Bit Chip, the four-bladed G-Upper Attack Ring, a Ten Wide Weight Disk, a Left Engine Gear Turbo, an Instant Release Blade Base, and a Metal Grip Customize Engine Weight for added balance.

Parts in detail

No further numbering given beyond regional naming; related to Trygle 2 G, cited as a comparable alternative purchase at similar pricing.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring G Upper 5.5 g Left (ineffective in Right) In Left Spin, focused and well-angled contact points deliver effective Smash Attack, and its slopes double as a strong Traditional Upper Attack shape, working together the way Triple Wing's Smash and slopes combine in Right Spin; its recoil runs slightly higher than Panther Head's or Eight Spiker's, which limits how much its own slopes help survivability against those rivals.
Weight Disk Ten Wide 14.0 (Takara/Hasbro) / 14.3 (SonoKong G-Blade) g A moderately light Weight Disk with an outward mass bias, though less extreme than Wide Defense or Wide Survivor.
Spin Gear Left Engine Gear (Turbo) 7.0 g Left A CEW-compatible Left-Spin Engine Gear built around a 'Turbo' gimmick — a short, powerful burst of extra Engine Gear activation rather than the standard version's weaker, longer one — making it the one Engine Gear implementation that's actually capable for Attack use; with the right CEW (Metal Grip) it can send the Beyblade into a brief burst of near-uncontrollable speed.
Blade Base First Clutch Base (Dragoon GT Version) 7.4 g Both (heavy recoil either direction) Activates its clutch at the start of a match, less self-destructive than Final Clutch but still liable to break the flower pattern or self-KO. Paired with Left Engine Gear (Turbo), the activation burst could in theory be a real asset, but the Base's four-winged shape generates massive recoil in Left Spin and considerable recoil in Right Spin, undermining anything it's used with.
Other CEW: Metal Grip 2.7 g A part-plastic, part-metal tip with a wide semi-flat-style rubber surface, similar in diameter to Storm Grip Base's tip but with grip closer to Customize Grip Base Tip's rubber; its weight, grip, and small contact area make it move fairly slowly for a rubber tip, and the bulk of most Engine Gear Bases only compounds that, leaving it genuinely useful only alongside Left Engine Gear (Turbo).

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

In play and in the story

The G-Upper Attack Ring trades spike count for larger dragon-head detailing while keeping strong attack output, the Left Engine Gear Turbo was the line's first rubber-tipped gear and pushes speed and power at some cost to endurance, and the Instant Release Base adds four large blades that help it punch through low-profile opponents.

Community testing, 2009-02-13 — summarised

The competitive view

Dragoon GT's attack ring is often dismissed as offering no real Upper Attack utility, its name assumed to mean nothing more than a literal lift without ever being tested. Its real Upper Attack potential is disputed on that basis.

Testing found the "G Upper" attack ring gives noticeably better knockouts and results than it is usually credited with, and it is usable even on a disliked base like Storm Grip; the BB-10 stadium is noted as fairly attack-biased for plastics-era testing.

Condensed from community testing; competitive opinions are the community's, not ours, and may be out of date.
