Description

Tyson's first true Beyblade and the blade in which the Dragoon spirit first appears. A left-spinning attacker with the Storm Grip Base's rubber tip, it slams into opponents rather than outlasting them, and its whirlwind-raising Storm Attack becomes Tyson's calling card through the Japanese regionals. Dragoon S carries Tyson to the Asian tournament and establishes the whole line's identity: raw speed, wind power, and a habit of winning through sheer refusal to quit.

Takara Tomy built Dragoon Storm around the Spin Gear System, giving Tyson Granger the second top carrying his own bit-beast in the anime after Dragoon Grip Attacker, with Dragoon Fantom taking over from it afterward. Its parts are the Dragoon Bit Chip, the Reverse Dragon Attack Ring, the Eight Wide weight disk, a Left Spin Gear and the Storm Grip Blade Base; in the manga it debuted only after Rei Kon destroyed Tyson's earlier top in "Legend of the Fourth, Awakening!!".

Parts in detail

Originally released as product #34 with yellow-purple gradient stickers; later re-released as 'Dragoon S (Anime Version)' with red-black gradient stickers matching its on-screen appearance, under its own product code (A-1).

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Reverse Dragon 3.5 (Takara) / 4.0 (Hasbro) g Left (little use in Right) A Left-Spin Smash Attack Ring whose contact points are angled slightly too far outward, generating high rotational recoil and demanding strong recoil-control partners (Defense Grip Base or SG Grip Change Base Tip) to perform well; once that recoil is under control it hits surprisingly hard, though limited range keeps it just short of top-tier status. It also has known breakage issues from thin reinforcement around its main contact points.
Weight Disk Eight Wide 12.7 (Hard Edge Mold) / 12.2 (Soft Edge Mold) g A very light Weight Disk made in two molds — a sharper-edged one used only by Takara, and a softer-edged one used by both Takara (after production shifted to China) and Hasbro.
Spin Gear Left Spin Gear Shells 1.12 ea (+1.12 optional Metal Weight Gear) g Left One of two Left-Spin-enabling shell sets, built to be incompatible with Four Layer System Attack Rings and unable to use Neo cores without Wyborg's Auto Change core — Neo Left shells are generally preferred instead for their broader compatibility.
Spin Gear Regular SG Core Part 0.61 g Officially just called 'Gear,' this small core part holds the Base and shells together and doubles as a ripcord gear on Bearing Gyros Beyblades; it's the second-lightest core part overall.
Blade Base Storm Grip Base 4.4 g Both (direction-dependent performance) One of the shortest Bases in the Plastic generation, built to duck under opponents and land low hits, with a comparatively small-diameter flat rubber tip. Takara uses a harder rubber with a bit more grip than Fantom Grip Base's; Hasbro and SonoKong use a softer rubber closer to Defense Grip Base's. In its standard orientation it's fairly slow given its grip and small tip, though a strong launch keeps it going for a decent stretch.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

Community testing, Apr. 13, 2017 — summarised

The competitive view

Dragoon S is a Burst-era Energy Layer released for Beyblade's 15th anniversary, adapting the original Plastic-generation Reverse Dragon Attack Ring and Dragoon Bit Chip, debuting through a CoroCoro Aniki exclusive Dragoon S Wing Xtreme Gold Version. It keeps the square/diamond shape with four dragon-head contact points, now thicker overall and more compact, with a fixed, non-removable center Bit Beast image, and teeth comparable to Valtryek V2's.

The pointed dragon heads make Dragoon S a strong medium-strength left-spin burst attacker able to consistently burst top-tier defense and stamina combinations, backed by teeth strong enough to handle its own recoil.

Verdict as the draft gives it: A strong choice for burst-attack combinations, but its WBBA-exclusive scarcity and left-spin requirement, needing a Luinor L2 left-spin launcher, keep it below Valtryek or Xcalibur as a must-have; a welcome collection addition regardless.

  • Debuted CoroCoro Aniki exclusive Dragoon S Wing Xtreme (gold, clear plastic)
  • Also released: B-00 Dragoon S Wing Xtreme (white, opaque plastic, WBBA store exclusive limited release)
  • Opaque white version resists tooth-skipping and paint-chipping better than the gold clear-plastic version
