Stats are the figures printed on the packaging, on whatever scale this generation's packaging uses, so they compare within this table and not across generations. Weights are in grams. "Comes in" counts the Beyblades in this catalogue that include it. A dash means the record has nothing.
What a Engine Gear Is
Engine Gears are upgraded Spin Gears built with an internal spring mechanism, designed to push a Beyblade into high-speed rotation and to shift its behaviour mid-battle once that spring engages. They come in Right-Spin and Left-Spin families to match a top's rotation direction, each offered in several tip styles -- semi-flat, rounded, and flat among them -- that trade off between agility and stamina, plus customizable versions built to accept swappable Engine Weight tips. Two related but spring-free variants exist: the Heavy Metal Gear, which drops the internal machinery for a solid metal weight instead, and the Customize Gear, which swaps the spring for a performance gimmick such as an auto-clutch or a free-spinning shaft. A rarer Gyro Engine Gear uses a ripcord-powered internal motor so a Beyblade can be launched with or without a conventional launcher. Implemented in December 2002, the part requires an Engine Gear System Blade Base to function.
Because the spring mechanism only engages during a hit, Engine Gears let a Beyblade change speed and movement pattern mid-battle rather than staying constant, and reverse-spin variants trade a burst of counterattacking momentum for a steep stamina cost.
- Implemented in December 2002 with the Engine Gear System.
- The Gyro Engine Gear's motor is ripcord-powered and needs a manual pull start before a launch.
