About This Part

Defense, shortened to D, is a Performance Tip Takara Tomy put out in Japan on August 9, 2008 with the BB-04 Starter Leone 145D, making it the first Defense Type tip of the Metal Saga line. It shares its silhouette with Spike but is built wider, and that extra width gives it noticeably better Stamina retention than the Stamina-focused Spike tip, since it recoils less and recovers balance more readily after contact.

In Play

The wider contact surface also adds friction, which bleeds off Stamina during recovery, a trade-off the community weighs against Defense's low-recoil behaviour.

  • Debuted in Japan on August 9, 2008 with the BB-04 Starter Leone 145D.
  • Its low-recoil, high-recovery behaviour is considered the design ancestor of the Burst Series' Survive tip and its variants.
