Description

The fire-winged twin of Thunder Pegasus, bladed by the quieter Fernandez sibling. Torch Pegasus depends on Raul's timing in the twins' swapping routine, and his one solo match, against Mathilda in Madrid, is where he proves he can win without Julia. F-Dynasty reach the World Championship semifinal and then join the coalition against BEGA, and Raul's growth from his sister's shadow is one of the season's quieter arcs.

Raul Fernandez pilots this Attack Type top, known in Japan as Flame Pegasus, across the G-Revolution anime. Its Gyro Engine Gear lets it spin up by ripcord rather than launcher, and reversing the cord's insertion lets it run right- or left-spin, making it the only stock top built for both directions until the trick reappeared in the Hard Metal System era. The build centres on the Wing Upper attack ring and Engine Stopper Base, with the Metal Sharp customize engine weight showing up in some competitive setups.

Parts in detail

No distinct product variants are noted beyond the Hasbro localized name; the stock build is built around the Gyro Engine Gear gimmick part.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Wing Upper 5.3 g Right and Left A rounded, edge-weighted ring good for stamina and some opponent destabilization in both spin directions, but its recoil in both directions and its width (slightly over Wide Survivor) leave it a second-tier choice: behind Tiger Defenser for pure defense and behind Smash Turtle for Force Smash.
Weight Disk N/A — Flame Pegasus's Blade Base (Engine Stopper Base) has no weight-disk slot; the Gyro Engine Gear's own metal disk supplies the bulk of the Beyblade's weight instead.
Spin Gear Gyro Engine Gear 21.2 (including two 0.04 stock plastic bearings) g Dual (launchable in either direction) Technically the heaviest Spin Gear in the format, though that's largely trivia since it can't be paired with a weight disk. Its bearing-mounted gyro section lets it be launched via ripcord in either spin direction, arguably making it the first dual-spin Beyblade, and it carries an unusually detailed, multi-path legal-launch ruling.
Blade Base Engine Stopper Base 5.5 g A plastic shell that houses the Gyro Engine Gear and protects it from damage; despite the name, the actual engine-stop mechanism belongs to the Spin Gear itself, not this base. Its sloped protrusions can add minor destabilization since the part mostly free-spins in normal use.
Other Customize Engine Weight: Metal Sharp 3.3 g A flat tip with a small central metal point; on its own it's outclassed as an attack tip by Light Sharp, but it pairs unusually well with Gyro Engine Gear, where its low profile, rounded point, and bevel deliver excellent stability.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

In play and in the story

Competitive players place the Wing Upper attack ring in solid mid-tier territory for compact and survival play, behind Tiger Defenser and Twin Horn but ahead of Turtle Smash and roughly level with the Gyro Attack Ring, while the Engine Stopper Base itself sees little competitive use once its launch gimmick is set aside.

Community testing, Mar. 26, 2012 — summarised

The competitive view

Flame Pegasus (A-109) is the first GT-series release built around Customize Engine Weight, consisting of the Wing Upper attack ring, the Gyro Engine Gear, the Engine Stopper blade base, and the Metal Sharp CEW, with compacts, zombies and life-after-death combinations. Wing Upper's centered weight and moderate upper attack are rated a solid, if not top, choice for survival and compacts, comparable to the Gyro Attack Ring and better than Turtle Smash, though the ring is considered slightly large for zombie customization while still effective. The Gyro Engine Gear's poor weight balance and tall blade base leave it vulnerable to lower attack types despite its novel spinning-disk gimmick. Why the gyro spinning mode is not tournament-legal, despite appearing permitted on the box, remains unclear.
