Biography

Raul is the quieter Fernandez twin, a gentle performer who lives in his sister's shadow and has anxiety attacks whenever he has to blade without her. His Torch Pegasus mirrors Julia's Thunder Pegasus, and together they run tag attacks no other team can match. He gets one solo match, against Mathilda of the Barthez Battalion, framed around exactly that — and wins it, once Julia is shouting for him from the side. The series never gives him another. He is the more thoughtful of the pair, and part of the alliance that backs Tyson against BEGA; the manga writes him a good deal more sure of himself.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Raul's hair is spiky and red at the front while the back is kept short and brown, and his eyes are a clear green. His outfit is done mostly in blue and yellow, cut and styled to resemble the costume of a Spanish matador.

Shy and quiet, Raul follows the lead of his older twin sister Julia in almost everything. As the youngest and physically weakest of the pair, he lives in her shadow while she takes the spotlight, leaving him with low self-esteem and a conviction that he is far weaker than she is. He finds real confidence only when he and Julia battle together in sync, mirroring each other's emotions, actions and words as though they were one person. Battling alone brings on anxiety, rooted in the belief that he cannot manage without her, and he only pushes past it when Julia cheers him on from the sidelines, after which his confidence returns and his blading improves. The manga portrays him as considerably more self-assured.

Beyblade G-Revolution (2003)

F-Dynasty

Raul spends most of the round-robin on the bench, raised to believe Julia is simply the stronger blader and content to let her carry every tie. He finally asks for a round of his own; Julia refuses until their coach backs him, and he's set against Mathilda alone. Panic hits mid-match — he freezes, measuring himself against his sister — until her voice from the sideline steadies him, and he closes out his only solo win of the tournament. He never gets a second chance: F-Dynasty finishes third, Julia receives the G-Core he doesn't qualify for, and once BEGA becomes the real fight, his biggest scene is talking Lee through calming their sisters down rather than blading himself.

Claims We Could Not Check

  • In the anime he's overshadowed by Julia; the manga gives him far more confidence.
  • His family backstory differs sharply between anime (circus orphans) and manga (noble Spanish lineage).
