Description

Johnny's fire-salamander blade, the Majestics' most aggressive weapon and a natural rival for Kai's Dranzer. Salamalyon's flame attacks meet Dranzer F's Flame Saber head-on in the castle duel that Johnny wins, and again in the Olympia tournament where Kai takes revenge. The blade returns unchanged in G-Revolution when the Majestics reappear during the European leg. Its owner's arrogance and the phoenix-versus-salamander fire rivalry make it one of the season's best-remembered non-sacred-four blades.

Johnny of the Majestics spins Salamalyon in Beyblade: 2000, a Stamina-Type Spin Gear top whose Fire Cracker attack ring leans on looks and a bundled action figure more than battle output, carrying noticeably heavier recoil than the similarly shaped ring on Dranzer V2. Takara's Japanese release lets the figure's dragon parts clip onto the base for launch, but Hasbro moved those pegs to the top of the toy after the fragile side-mounted version kept snapping in play.

Parts in detail

Grouped by collectors among the "Hidden Spirit" Attack Ring family; related to a lineage of recolors and limited releases: Bakutenryu Donitrus (a dark-blue G-Revolution-era recolor), Bakuten Henkei Gaia Dragoon (a CoroCoro-limited purple recolor), and Hasbro's own Salamalyon and Salamalyon 2 releases.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Fire Cracker 4.7 (Mold 1) / 5.1 (Mold 2) g An oval ring with rounded sides, large gaps, and large head protrusions at each end; the rounded sides make it less consistent than the similarly-shaped Square Edge, and it's too recoil-prone for Stamina or Defense, plus somewhat fragile. Its raised head-protrusion contact points give it an edge against Circle Survivor Defense but make it weak against Compacts and other short opponents.
Weight Disk Eight Wide 12.7 (Hard Edge mold) / 12.2 (Soft Edge mold) g A very light disk with a wide (if less extreme than Ten Wide/Wide Defense/Wide Survivor) weight spread; has minor use with Attack Rings whose contact points get obstructed by wider disks (e.g. Double Wing), but its light weight leaves it outclassed overall.
Blade Base Salamalyon Base 5.9 (Mold 1) / 6.1 (Mold 2) g A light base carrying a narrow flat tip (barely wider than SG Semi-Flat Base's flat section) that moves aggressively but struggles to flower-pattern or absorb recoil; figurine-attachment poles cripple its Life-After-Death, cause scraping, and interfere with the deep banking the tip needs for good movement.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

Community testing, Oct. 10, 2011 — summarised

The competitive view

Salamalyon, a Beyblade from the Hidden Spirits transformation-gimmick line, has a Blade Base that is not tournament-legal, while the Attack Ring and Weight Disk are legal. The Fire Cracker Attack Ring's description has been refined over time.

  • Weight: Fire Cracker AR 6 grams (per 2016 revision)
