Description

The blue phoenix blade Kai is already wielding when he crushes the neighbourhood in the first episode. Dranzer S pairs a sharp, stable tip with a compact attack ring, letting Kai sit in the centre and punish anyone who charges him, then finish with the Fire Arrow. It is the blade of the Blade Sharks' leader and of the Bladebreakers' first captain, and it stays in service far longer than Tyson's Dragoon S, only being replaced during the European leg.

Also known as Dranzer Spiral, this was Kai Hiwatari's very first Beyblade and the top that opened the Dranzer line, before he moved on to Dranzer F. It pairs the Dranzer Bit Chip with the Double Wing Attack Ring, the Eight Balance Weight Disk, a right-turning Spin Gear and the mode-switching Spiral Change Blade Base. Takara and Hasbro put it out in numerous finishes over the years, from a translucent Phantom Force red to clear Hong Kong and Black Skeleton versions, plus gold, silver and red-plated tournament prizes and a blue-plated Shogakukan giveaway.

Part by part

Parts in detail

Combo pairing the fragile Double Wing Attack Ring, Eight Balance Weight Disk, a Right Spin Gear (Free Shaft Version) with matching Free Shaft casings, and the highly regarded Spiral Change Base.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Double Wing 3.5 g Left preferred; usable but weaker/more fragile in Right Best in Left Spin — Right Spin lacks good contact points and worsens both recoil and fragility. Range is limited by the fact that major Attack weight disks tend to block its main contact points (Ten Wide interferes least). Left Spin makes it a solid second-tier Zombie/Defensive-Zombie choice with Wide Survivor or Wide Defense, and its offense/spin-stealing mix suits Left-Spin Compact builds using Wide Defense and Metal Change Base particularly well.
Weight Disk Eight Balance 14.1 g A middling-weight disk with an unremarkable weight spread, generally outclassed by more competitive disks like Ten Balance; heavier 'plated' copies occasionally match Ten Balance's weight as a niche alternative.
Spin Gear Right Spin Gear Shells (Spin Gear Shells) 1.1 each, plus an optional 1.12 Metal Weight Gear g Right The standard (non-Neo) shell type, incompatible with Neo Cores; Neo Shells are generally preferred for their broader core compatibility. The optional Metal Weight Gear reduces wobble and adds slight weight but isn't required for legality.
Spin Gear SG (Free Shaft Version) (Spin Gear Casings) 0.52 each (1.03 total), plus one bearing g SonoKong's version ships with a brass bearing; the casings' main purpose is mounting SG (Full Auto Clutch Version) shafts outside their native base for full free-spin control, enabling Spin Stealing Attack builds effective enough to outclass even traditional same-spin Zombie setups for LAD when paired with Customize Grip Base. Other shafts tend to scrape against the casing, limiting broader use.
Spin Gear SG (Free Shaft Version) Shaft (Spin Gear Shaft) 1.27 g Alone in its own base it offers very poor stability and essentially no controlled movement, effectively outperformed by using no tip at all. Mounted in Customize Grip Base instead, the base's rim lends enough stability to make a usable, second-tier Zombie setup.
Blade Base Spiral Change Base 7.2 g Offers the best raw LAD in the generation but also very poor defense, since its low-friction tip section slips over the tornado ridge easily. Its Survival mode exposes the shaft tip and hurts stability at contact angles, while Attack mode's flat tip moves fast but risks skipping the ridge (mitigated by weak launching). This combination of traits means it can't be used for Spin Stealing Attack despite its LAD, since recoil KOs it on nearly every hit. It's famed as the single best Zombie-counter base thanks to its LAD advantage, capable of upsetting even Defensive Zombies in opposite spin, though its own poor defense and Self-KO risk keep it from being a reliable everyday Zombie part.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

Community testing, Apr. 13, 2017 — summarised

The competitive view

Dranzer S is a 15th-Anniversary Burst System Energy Layer adapting the original Plastic-generation Double Wing Attack Ring and Dranzer Bit Chip into an elliptical two-bird-head/wing shape with a non-removable center chip. Its teeth resemble the TAKARA-TOMY Nepstrius N2's and, like Spryzen S2, cannot handle the recoil from its own aggressive shape.

Aggressive elliptical two-point shape but short teeth make it burst itself very easily, so it is not viable competitively.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Should never be considered for competitive use; collection piece only.

  • Released for Beyblade's 15th Anniversary
  • Debuted with the Limited Release Booster Dranzer S Spread Trans
  • TT: B-00 Dranzer S Spread Trans (blue)
  • Thicker and more compact than the original Double Wing Attack Ring; non-removable Bit Chip
