About This Part

Wide Defense, or WD, is a Takara Tomy Performance Tip that debuted in Japan on September 19, 2009 with the BB-47 Starter Earth Aquila 145WD. It keeps the two curved holes plain Defense carries but cuts them thinner and smaller into a Sharp-style tip, and the wider base that results conserves stamina better than Defense or Semi-Defense by spinning at a lower rate and spreading contact over more surface. That same width makes it slower to recover its balance than plain Defense once knocked off-centre, which matters on tall Spin Tracks like 230 or TH170.

In Play

At release it quickly became a top-tier stamina choice, though later tips such as Eternal Wide Defense and Bearing Drive have since overtaken it thanks to better balance recovery and stamina; the community still pairs it with high-recoil Fusion Wheels like Vulcan or Variares for one-hit-KO attack builds, or with low-recoil wheels like Duo or Fusion for counter-attacking defence builds, and rates it overall as a solid, if no longer top-shelf, stamina part.
