Description

Takara sold this Attack Type under two names on one product: Uriel on some releases, Wolborg 03 on others, distributed in Japan in February 2002 as a CoroCoro Comic exclusive, part of the Magnacore System. Which name it carries comes down to which Bit Chip sticker was applied at the factory. Its build runs a Cross Horn Attack Ring, Revolver Attack Weight Disk, NEO Right Spin Gear, a Magnecore Core seated at the South Pole, and an SG Grip Base. As Uriel it leads into Uriel 2; as Wolborg 03 it follows Wolborg 2 and precedes Wolborg 4 in the toyline, and it stands apart from its Wolborg siblings as the only Attack Type among them and the only one not piloted by Tala.

Parts in detail

Takara issued this Beyblade under one product name in two colorways that fans distinguish informally: the gold version documented on this page (fitted with a South Magnecore) is nicknamed 'Uriel,' while the black version (fitted with a Metal Weight Core instead, see the companion page) is nicknamed 'Wolborg 03.' The gold colorway shows a milder version of the Gold Plastic Syndrome fragility seen on Uriel 2 due to a slightly different plastic mix; the source still advises caution.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Cross Horn 4.3 g Right and Left A four-winged ring with rounded heads leading in Left Spin and small wingtip protrusions leading in Right Spin; well balanced overall, though the wingtips protrude past most weight disks in a way that limits usefulness. Right Spin gives competent, if not top-tier, Smash Attack; Left Spin gives a solid, if unspectacular, Tier 2 zombie-build option.
Weight Disk Revolver Attack 15.0 g A compact disk lighter than Heavy or Eight Heavy despite a similar mass spread; its shape and contact-point recoil undercut the defensive use its distribution would otherwise suggest.
Spin Gear Neo Right Spin Gear Shells (South Magne Version) 1.15 each / 2.3 total g Right The standard Neo-style right-spin shell housing, preferred for compatibility with all SG-compatible bases and Neo cores, including the Heavy Metal Core.
Spin Gear South Magnecore 3.3 g A Neo-only core offering a middle-ground weight and mass spread between the Metal Weight Core and a Heavy Metal Core, useful for balancing recoil control against stamina/speed on attack setups; its magnetic gimmick barely affects normal play beyond attracting a couple of magnetized tips or slightly complicating assembly.
Blade Base SG Grip Base 4.9 g A right-spin mirror of Magne Flat Base with a removable tip; its four wings add a little right-spin smash but mostly generate recoil, so it only really earns its keep as an attack-type base. This colorway's casting shares the Gold Plastic Syndrome fragility caution.
Other SG Grip Base Tip 2.74 g A fairly hard rubber tip with a non-magnetic metal center on a pole meant to be magnetized by the spin gear; performs similarly enough to Customize Grip Base Tip that the two are broadly interchangeable, with slightly lower recoil control than SG Grip Change Base Tip or Defense Grip Base.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

Community testing, Aug. 06, 2012 — summarised

The competitive view

Wolborg 03, commonly called Ariel, is a limited CoroCoro-magazine release from Takara later issued by Hasbro as Wolborg 3 during the G-Revolution era; both versions use a rare gold-tinted plastic that grows fragile with age ('gold plastic syndrome').

Cross Horn resembles the Turtle Survivor Attack Ring but its blunt wing tips give much weaker Smash Attack, with limited zombie-type use in left spin and no thin-wing breakage issue since its edges are blunter and bulkier. SG Grip Base copies Dragoon V's Magnet Flat Base but with right-facing wings and a wider shaft; it offers some Defense and minor Attack via wobble but has poor Stamina, so Wolborg 2's SG is recommended instead for the same role.

Verdict as the draft gives it: The article says the parts have some competitive niche uses but are all outclassed, and recommends buying this Beyblade only for collection purposes given its rarity and fragility.

  • Cross Horn Attack Ring: 5 grams
  • SG Grip Base (Blade Base): 8 grams
  • Ariel/Wolborg 03 parts are affected by 'gold plastic syndrome,' making them break easily
