About This Part
SG Grip Base is a Blade Base for the Magnacore System that shipped with Uriel in February 2002, with the base weighing 4.8 grams and its tip 2.7 grams. It amounts to a mirrored take on Dragoon V's Magne Flat Base, with the wing segments on its clips reversed and its shaft widened slightly so the tip turns more freely, though some grip inside the base still slows it a little.
In Play
It is the only V-Series Blade Base to pair with a rubber tip, a fairly hard one shaped like Magne Flat Base's, but it swaps the magnet for an unmagnetized metal piece whose shaft channels a Magnecore's pull down to the stadium floor; that tip moves with only moderate speed and is heavily outpaced by Customize Grip Base's tip, and while it spins freely enough to serve passively on defense, it lacks the bearing support that Wolborg 2's Bearing Version 2 Spin Gear provides, and being rubber it offers little survival. Despite being the heaviest tip most bases can carry, it sees little competitive use. The base itself is outclassed in the same way Magne Flat Base is, losing out to the more versatile Customize Grip Base for nearly every job; its one real edge is that Dranzer V's unique Magnecore lets it host Customize Grip Base's tip at a higher sitting height, avoiding the scraping that pairing causes on Customize Grip Base itself, which makes it the community's pick for that one narrow customization even though Grip Base still edges it out there. In a smash-attack build with Cross Griffon, Wide Defense, Neo Right SG, and Dranzer V's South Magnecore, the lower stack height lets Cross Griffon connect far more often, and Wide Defense's weight keeps the resulting recoil in check.
