Description
Known in Japan as Death Gargoyle MS, Dark Gargoyle MS is a Balance Type top built for the Hard Metal System and stands as the toyline's follow-up to the original Dark Gargoyle. Its stack pairs the Gargoyle Emblem Bit Protector with the near-circular Circle Upper attack ring at twenty grams, a Circle Heavy weight disk and the three-gram Metal Change Core running core, and it later appeared in red, purple and light-blue recolours through later HMS Random Booster waves.

In play and in the story
Competitive players prize Circle Upper for its almost unbroken circular metal frame, which leaves few points for a rival ring to grab and gives it strong Upper Attack along with one of the widest attack ranges among HMS rings; low-riser combinations such as Dragoon MS's Grip Flat Core keep its inherent wobble from becoming a liability, while some players deliberately exploit that same wobble against Survival-type opponents with a Bearing Core setup. The Metal Change Core is equally well regarded for switching between a stationary Survival stance and a fast Attack mode depending on the stadium's tilt, and its low height helps Circle Upper dig underneath rivals for Upper Attack.
- A red recolour appeared in HMS Random Booster Act 2.
- A purple recolour appeared in HMS Random Booster Act 3.
- A light-blue recolour, sold under the plain name Death Gargoyle, also appeared in HMS Random Booster Act 3.
- A reinforced second mould of the Circle Upper metal frame debuted with HMS Random Booster ACT 3 and was also carried by Hasbro.
