Biography

Ming-Ming is BEGA's manufactured pop idol, a singer whose concerts double as recruitment drives for Boris's league, and the face he uses to reintroduce himself to Tyson. She switches between a sweet public persona and a taller, fiercer battle form, and blades Venus on fame and mind games as much as on skill. She opens the Justice 5 against Daichi — pure showmanship against pure stubbornness — and the giggling arrogance covers a real competitor. Once Boris's cruelty is out in the open she walks away from him with Crusher, and is cheering for the BBA by the finale.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Ming-Ming switches between two distinct forms, with her size, hair and eyes changing along with them. The gentler form, called Loli Form in Japan, is shorter with soft wavy hair and big eyes, and she favours it because it makes people underestimate her. The tougher form, Queen Form in Japan, is taller with sharp-edged hair and narrow eyes, and comes out once a battle turns serious, the switch playing out as a glowing, butterfly-filled transformation. Her gentler outfit is a yellow-bodiced dress with a frilly pink skirt, heart clips over sheer sleeves, long white gloves and ruby red shoes, hair buns covered by yellow-ribboned flower clips. The tougher outfit turns black with heart motifs, shortens the gloves to a frilly red, and swaps the flower clips for white ribbons.

Ming-Ming's attitude shifts with her form, though a deep well of confidence and pride runs through both. In her gentler form she plays sweet to get people to drop their guard, even while being fairly self-centred underneath, boasting that she's both the world's best blader and its best singer; she'll even claim she has to hold back against boys so as not to crush them. When security dragged Hilary away for causing a scene outside BEGA, Ming-Ming giggled about her adoring fans, prompting Hilary to shout that she was no fan of hers. Her tougher form doesn't soften any of this — if anything she turns meaner and more sarcastic — but it does bring a sharper focus on the battle itself.

Beyblade G-Revolution (2003)

BEGA League / Justice Five

Ming-Ming owes her entire career to Boris, who plucked her out of a fast-food job and built her into BEGA's biggest star, then made sure she remembered exactly who paid for the fame. She opens the Justice 5 against Daichi, turning her concert-stage showmanship and mid-battle singing into a weapon that rattles him as much as her Venus does. For most of the season she's the league's happy mouthpiece, recruiting kids with a smile while genuinely competing underneath it, until Boris's cruelty toward his own bladers becomes impossible to ignore. She and Crusher walk out on him together, get talked into one last sabotage attempt against Tyson's Dragoon, and end up standing in the stands instead, cheering for the same team she used to sell against.

Claims We Could Not Check

  • Stephanie Beard's existing YTV singing contract as 'Sugar BayBee' helped her land the English voice role
