Biography

Boris Balkov — Vladimir Volkov in Japan — is the purple-haired director of Balkov Abbey, the Moscow facility where Biovolt turns children into weapons, and the man who raised both Kai and Tala on Voltaire's orders. Smooth, manipulative and casually cruel, he hands Kai Black Dranzer and has Tala's body modified to guarantee the title. Tyson beating Tala exposes the whole thing and topples him. He is not finished: in G-Revolution he resurfaces claiming reform, founds the corporate BEGA League to professionalise and corner the sport, buys the BBA out and builds a stable around Brooklyn, rigging matches and steering the Barthez Battalion from behind. He is undone the same way twice — his own recruits, Garland, Crusher, Mystel and Ming-Ming, turn on him. He is the only villain to headline two seasons of the trilogy.

Story by season

Where the seasons take them

Beyblade (2001)

Biovolt / Balkov Abbey (director)

Boris runs Balkov Abbey as Biovolt's proving ground, hand-picking children he judges strong enough to shape into an army of bladers under Voltaire's quiet direction. He dangles Black Dranzer in front of Kai to pull him away from the Bladebreakers, and once the World final nears he has Tala's own body altered to guarantee the result. Tyson beating Tala in the deciding round tears the whole scheme apart: Voltaire is taken into custody, and Boris, left with nothing to show for years of engineering, disappears rather than face what comes next.

Beyblade G-Revolution (2003)

BEGA League (owner)

He resurfaces claiming to be a changed man, founding the corporate BEGA League and buying out the BBA while insisting street bladers inspired his turn — a story nobody close to him believes. Behind the scenes he plants Jean Paul Barthez inside the Barthez Battalion to rig their run, only for Miguel's team to see through it and turn on him. He grooms Brooklyn as his prize fighter, shrugs off the beating Brooklyn hands Kai, and sends Crusher and Ming-Ming to intimidate Tyson at home — a plan that instead pushes both of them to switch sides along with Garland and Mystel. When BEGA finally collapses under Brooklyn's own power, Boris is trampled by fans rushing to watch Tyson, and Hiro publicly exposes him before walking away from BEGA for good.
