Biography

Gingka Hagane, called Ginga in Japan, is the central hero of the Metal Saga, introduced as a wandering blader with his Storm Pegasus. Over three anime seasons he defeats the Dark Nebula's Ryuga, wins Battle Bladers and the World Championship as captain of Team GanGan Galaxy, and eventually destroys the reborn god of destruction, Nemesis. His Pegasus evolves alongside him through Galaxy, Cosmic and Samurai forms as he masters new special moves. Fiercely cheerful and endlessly encouraging, he later mentors Zyro Kurogane in Shogun Steel and is the only blader from the saga active in every season.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Gingka has dark red spiky hair and wears a blue headband bearing Pegasus, with only one wing until Metal Fury restores the second his father's headband always had. His golden-brown eyes sit above a nose broken, likely from blading. His usual look pairs a long white scarf standing in for Pegasus' wings with a short blue jacket, a plain orange shirt, white-and-blue fingerless gloves, a red belt over a brown one holding a Beyblade pouch, black trousers and red-and-navy shoes; he uses a string launcher with a 3-segment grip and a Bey Point Card. In Shogun Steel his hair grows shaggier and taller, he wears a black shirt under a blue jacket with rolled sleeves and gold lines, brown fingerless gloves, dark blue trousers and black boots over red socks, a longer, ragged-ended scarf, and switches to a ZeroG Launcher.

Calm and good-natured, Gingka is ready to do whatever it takes to battle alongside Pegasus and protect the people around him, or save the world when it comes to that. Losing rattles him only briefly; he is never truly afraid and always comes back ready to fight regardless of the odds, living by his own line about a blader's spirit. His anger toward Ryuga during their fight doesn't linger, and he later forgives him on learning Ryuga was being manipulated. He constantly urges others to find that same fighting spirit, and eventually becomes a widely respected hero, admired even by future bladers like Zero, after saving the world from Nemesis. Small details round him out: he loves burgers and is oddly afraid of medicine and needles when ill.

Etymology

Where the Name Comes From

Gingka comes from the Japanese for "galaxy", fitting the Metal Saga's running use of celestial imagery, while Hagane is Japanese for "steel", tying into the saga's metal theme. In the Bladers of the Four Seasons concept he stands for autumn, echoed in his voice actor Aki Kanada's name, aki meaning "autumn", placed between the "summer" and "winter" kanji hidden in Ichika's and Chifuyu's names.

Claims We Could Not Check

  • He is the fifth character to wield a Pegasus-type Beyblade in the franchise, following his father Ryo and, in earlier media, Julia and Raul Fernandez plus a video-game-only blader.
  • His 'Blader Spirit' aura appeared even before he officially became a Legendary Blader.
  • Despite training far less than his rival Kyoya, he consistently comes out on top.
  • He has a strong aversion to medicine and needles.
  • Manga and anime disagree on who hands Zyro his first Zero-G Beyblade — Gingka in the anime, his father Ryo in the manga.
