Description
Hasbro's western line renamed this Attack Type top Thunder Serpent, where Takara Tomy calls it Thunder Dragon in Japan. It won one of two spots in the 2003 CoroCoro Comic Hard Metal System design contest, sharing the honour with Sea Drake, and was the first top built with a Customize Weight Disk. Its Thunder Emblem Bit Protector uses the second Bit Protector mould, and it runs the Spark Dragon Attack Ring, CWD Free Survivor Weight Disk and Metal Weight Flat Core Running Core.

In play and in the story
Beyond the CWD Free Survivor, which the community still sees as outclassed by parts like the CWD Defense Ring or the CWD God Ring from Shining God MS, this top has little left to recommend it.
- Reissued as an HMS Random Booster ACT 1 prize top in black.
- Reissued as an HMS Random Booster ACT 5 version in off-white.
Community testing, 2009-04-23 — summarised
The competitive view
Thunder Dragon, one of two winners of the 2003 Coro Coro HMS Beyblade design contest (alongside Sea Dragon), was the first Beyblade to include a Circular Weight Disk (CWD). It has a Bit Protector, free-spinning Spark Dragon attack ring, CWD Free Survivor weight disk and Metal Weight Flat Core running core.
Spark Dragon is ruled unusable for Smash Attack because its free-spinning ABS Caul absorbs hits without transferring force, and a ruling clarifies it is illegal to use its Metal Frame without the ABS Caul; CWD Free Survivor stands out, offering strong Upper Attack protection and heavier weight than Circle Heavy, though CWD Defense Ring (Sea Dragon) is said to outperform it by 2 grams and being fixed rather than free-spinning; Metal Weight Flat Core is a minor upgrade to Flat Core with slightly better survival and control.
Verdict as the draft gives it: Beyond CWD Free Survivor, Thunder Dragon is said to offer little, and even that part is outclassed if the player already owns CWD Defense Ring or CWD God Ring (Shining God MS).
- Bit Protector: Thunder Emblem (second-mold Bit Protector)
- Attack Ring: Spark Dragon, 14 grams, two-piece Metal Frame/ABS Caul design
- Weight Disk: CWD Free Survivor, 17 grams, free-spinning
- Running Core: Metal Weight Flat Core, 3 grams
