Description

Jiraiya MS is a stamina top running the Hard Metal System, sold first in Japan as a standalone Booster for 609¥ before Hasbro reissued it as Bearing Survivor. It combines the Jiraiya Emblem bit protector and Jiraiya Blade attack ring with a CWD Free Cross weight disk and the defensively minded Bearing Core 2 running core.

In play and in the story

Competitive players value it mainly for the Bearing Core 2 running core, which the community regards as a strong choice for survival-style play against attack-focused opponents, even though the CWD Free Cross weight disk and Jiraiya Blade see comparatively little use outside compact-style match-ups.

  • Released in Japan as a Booster for 609¥.
  • Reissued by Hasbro as Bearing Survivor.
  • A red colourway was released as the prize top in MA-22 HMS Random Booster Act 5.

Community testing, 2008-07-12 — summarised

The competitive view

The Jiraiya MS entry covers a factual dispute over whether the Hasbro release of the Bearing Core 2 running core has a rubber or plastic tip, plus a weight comparison to Samurai Upper.

Not detailed beyond the tip-material dispute, which affects whether the part functions as a grip (rubber) or hard (plastic) tip.

  • Bearing Core 2 (Hasbro release): disputed tip material -- one account reports a plastic tip from a firsthand example and another a rubber tip from a different unit in hand, suggesting Hasbro may have shipped both or one was a mis-production
  • Samurai Upper is also reported at 22 grams, with Jiraiya Blade said to be only marginally heavier
