Description

The blade of the Saint Shields' leader, first seen when a hooded 'Mister X' takes Tyson apart in the V-Force premiere. Flash Leopard is a blur of an attacker whose flame-wreathed cat outpaces Dragoon V for most of the season, and Ozuma uses it less to win than to test whether the Bladebreakers deserve their bit-beasts. Tyson's first victory over it is a turning point, and their later tie marks the moment Ozuma accepts that the four sacred beasts are in the right hands.

Ozuma's first top, Flash Leopard, is a Balance Type build from the Magnacore System that later evolves into Flash Leopard 2. Its Flash Leopard bit chip sits over a 5-gram Panther Claw attack ring, a 17-gram Ten Heavy weight disk, a 4-gram Neo Right SG spin gear and a 5-gram SG Semi-Flat Base, and Takara Tomy issued it in numerous colourways, including a blue Fukubako 2003 exclusive with a metal weight core in place of the usual Magnecore.

Parts in detail

Base Takara release, later followed by a Hasbro Magnacore variant that swaps in a different Spin Gear core.

SlotPartWeightSpinNote
Attack Ring Panther Claw 4.5 g Right Compact but wider than Wide Survivor, with an aggressive design and a large wing gap that rule it out for defense/stamina use; offers only modest right-spin Smash Attack and is generally outclassed by the more balanced Tiger Defenser.
Weight Disk Ten Heavy 16.1 g The heaviest legal weight disk, with a compact distribution that's excellent for sustaining RPM in defense, grinding, force-smash, and upper-attack builds, though not useful for pure attack; considered a versatile, near-must-have part.
Spin Gear Neo Right SG (Metal Weight Version) 1.15 per shell (2.3 total) / 2.5 (Metal Weight Core) g Right The Neo shell gives broad base compatibility; its Metal Weight Core is slightly lighter than the Magnecores, which keeps it from clearly standing out in most attack builds, though the practical performance gap is usually small.
Blade Base SG Semi-Flat Base 4.7 g A shallower-angled Semi-Flat variant that wears quickly but gives predictable, easy-to-use performance; outclassed by Metal Change Base for attack/defense/survival and by a worn Metal Ball Base for tip behavior, but still a competitive option for compact customizations.

Weights are single copies weighed on their own; a part can vary by a few tenths of a gram.

In play and in the story

Community comparison places Panther Claw alongside Tiger Defenser as a similarly balanced attack ring, giving up a little stamina to its heavier build and longer points in exchange for a touch more upper-attack potential, and it still sees use today swapped onto a Metal Change Base for an aggressive Compact-style launch.

  • Issued in several colourways, including Random Booster 8 and 9 assortments, a grey metallic limited edition, and a blue Fukubako 2003 exclusive.

Community testing, 2008-12-31 — summarised

The competitive view

Flash Leopard is a plastic-generation Beyblade whose Panther Claw attack ring shares its overall shape and balanced playstyle with Driger S's Tiger Defenser, though it is heavier, larger, and outclassed by it in most roles while performing passably as a Balance-type build.

Panther Claw gives some right-spin Smash Attack and performs adequately in Endurance, Defense and Compact combos, and can approximate a 10-sided-Bistool-style Balance build, but underperforms Driger S's Tiger Defenser and true Balance-type builds like 10bBistool in each of those roles.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Judged outclassed by Tiger Defenser (Driger S) as a general attack ring, and by 10bBistool as a Balance build, but usable as a substitute for either when unavailable.

  • Attack Ring: Panther Claw
  • Weight Disk: 10 Heavy
  • Spin Gear: (Hasbro) Neo Right SG North Core Version / (Takara) Neo Right SG Metal Weight Version
  • Blade Base: SG Semi-Flat Base
