About This Part

Yard is a Defense-type Driver from Takara Tomy, built for the Burst System and the Cho-Z Layer System. It debuted in Japan on March 17th, 2018, inside the B-106 Booster featuring Emperor Forneus. The tip is a free-rotating ball, in the line of earlier ball tips Orbit and Atomic, ringed by a wide flat base similar to Defense; the idea is that the ball adds knock-out resistance through friction while the ring braces against the stadium floor when struck. In practice the ball's free rotation undercuts much of that resistance and the ring rarely reaches the floor, though the heavy weight typical of SwitchStrike, God and Cho-Z layers helps compensate, and the free-spinning tip does add burst resistance. Yard also sits slightly shorter than most pre-Cho-Z drivers, meant to guard against being struck from below, though the Burst System's design mostly cancels that benefit.

In Play

The community treats Yard as a workable substitute for Orbit with similar defensive performance, though it falls behind Orbit for stamina because of its scrape risk and behind Atomic for life-after-death.

  • Debuted in Japan inside the B-106 Booster, Emperor Forneus 0 Yard, on March 17th, 2018.

The Competitive View

The free-spinning ball reduces the Knock-Out benefit its surface area would otherwise provide, but heavy Switch-Strike/God, Chou-Z, and Core Disc weights are expected to compensate; it is also expected to offer high Stamina, spin-equalization, and Life-After-Death potential thanks to low floor friction and a stable wide tip.

  • Free-rotating ball tip with a wide circular base, no surrounding tabs
  • Compared to predecessors Orbit and Atomic
