About This Part
8 is a Core Disc made by Takara Tomy for the Burst System, also used in the God Layer System and SwitchStrike System. It debuted in Japan on April 29th, 2017 with the B-79 Starter, Drain Fafnir 8 Nothing, and later reached western stores through Hasbro's SwitchStrike Starter Pack, Drain Fafnir F3 8 Nothing. Each face carries four protrusions shaped like the numeral, and the lower loop of every "8" is gapped in the manner of Knuckle, pulling mass to the rim for a strong Flywheel Effect. It is among the heaviest Core Discs, outweighing Heavy, Gravity, 2, 4 and 6, which boosts knock-out resistance and attack force but, as with other heavy, outward-loaded discs such as Gravity or Ring, comes at the cost of burst resistance.
In Play
Community opinion holds that 8's burst vulnerability keeps it behind Discs 4 and 7, which match or beat its stamina with far less risk, though the added weight of the Cho-Z Layer System later gave 8 renewed use in attack builds while still trailing 7 overall; most bladers treat it as worth owning rather than essential.
- Released in Japan on April 29th, 2017 with the B-79 Starter, Drain Fafnir 8 Nothing.
- Released in western markets with Hasbro's SwitchStrike Starter Pack, Drain Fafnir F3 8 Nothing.
- Its use with Flame-X Diomedes D4 8 Defense-S and Silver-X Jumbo Jormuntor J4 8 Fusion-S broke the earlier pattern of 8 appearing only on Stamina-type Beyblades.
The Competitive View
Its high Outward Weight Distribution boosts Stamina via the Flywheel Effect while its heavy overall weight aids Knock-Out resistance and Attack, at the cost of reduced Burst resistance compared to lighter Disks.
Verdict as the draft gives it: 8 is considered a highly versatile Disk that every blader should own, with its poor Burst resistance offset by pairing it with heavy Evolution/God Layers or Metal God Chips, or Frames like Glaive for Life-After-Death.
- Debuted in B-79 Starter Drain Fafnir 8 Nothing, released April 29, 2017
- Four protrusions per side molded into an '8' shape, gapped lower loops akin to Knuckle Disk
- Heavier than Heavy, Gravity, 2, 4, and 6 Disks
- Takara Tomy releases: B-79 Drain Fafnir 8 Nothing; Drain Fafnir 8 Nothing (purple ver., purple painted); B-87 Maximum Garuda 8Flow Flugel (Random Booster Vol. 7); B-87 Acid Anubis 8Vortex Loop (Random Booster Vol. 7); Yaeger Yggdrasil 8[unlisted] (Random Booster Vol. 8)
Works with
- Pairs well with Frames such as Glaive and with heavy Evolution/God Layer Chips to offset its Burst-resistance weakness.
Related parts named in the draft: Knuckle Disk, Heavy, Gravity, Disk 2, Disk 4, Disk 6, Glaive.
