Biography

Gordo is the silent giant Dr Zagart picks out of hundreds of bladers to partner Zeo, first as a training opponent and then as his tag partner in the hunt for the four sacred bit-beasts. His two-headed hound Orthrus is designed as Zeo's mirror, ice against fire, and he is genuinely strong with it — he beats Dunga outright and comes close to beating Ray, who holds him to a draw on nerve alone. He treats the tournament strictly as a job and has almost no inner life on screen, which is rather the point: hired muscle beside a boy discovering he was built rather than born. Dragoon V2 ends his run in the final, shattering Orthrus's bit chip.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

A tall boy with a spiky mohawk-style haircut that tapers into a long tail down the back, Gordo stands out for his height among the V-Force cast. The anime renders his skin tone light, though his features and colouring suggest the design was originally meant for a dark-skinned redhead, leaving a visible mismatch between concept and final animation.

Gordo doesn't behave the way his elemental pairing would suggest, a mismatch that appears to be deliberate: together with Zeo he forms a duo representing ice and fire, and while the Beyblades keep the colour scheme normal for each element, the two bladers wear it reversed, so Gordo's design points one way while his temperament points the other.

Team Zagart

Chosen out of hundreds of bladers to train Zeo, Gordo spends dozens of failed attempts coaxing Cerberus out of him before the two click and Dr. Zagart hands him Orthrus and a place at the World Championship. The tag bracket opens easily: he beats Dunga without much trouble, coached against the Bladebreakers' habits by Zagart's preparation. Ray is tougher, Orthrus grinding Driger down until Ray finds the will to force a draw out of nothing. The final round pits him against Tyson, and Dragoon V2 finishes him, shattering Orthrus's bit chip and ending his run before the championship match itself. Through it all he treats the tournament like a job, giving away almost nothing of himself beyond results.

Briefing

What to know

  • Selected personally by Dr. Zagart to help train Zeo and hunt down the four Sacred Bit-Beasts.
  • His Orthrus and Zeo's Cerberus deliberately swap the pair's expected elemental associations, pairing Gordo's icy power against Zeo's fire.
  • Coached using data on Kai and Ray's fighting patterns, giving him and Zeo an edge early in the World Championships.
  • Nearly defeated Ray Kon, who escaped with a draw only through sheer mental willpower.
  • Eliminated from the tournament by Tyson's Dragoon V2, which destroyed Orthrus's bit-chip in the final.
