About This Part

A Stamina Type Layer built for the Burst System and the God Layer System, Maximum Garuda came from Takara Tomy in Japan on July 15th, 2017 as part of the B-87 Random Booster Vol. 7 Maximum Garuda.8F.Fl. Its wide, near-perfectly circular rim is broken only by shallow bumps, and five blades running from the rim to the centre form its God Layer System gimmick, built to generate upper force.

In Play

That upper force is meant to lift the Beyblade slightly off the stadium floor and cut friction against the Driver for better stamina, but in practice the blades create drag that slows the spin instead, an effect that worsens with a harder launch. A single shallow tooth and otherwise shallow slopes might suggest weak Burst resistance, but the near-perfectly round rim produces almost no recoil, which blocks both Bursts and Knock-Outs, extends life-after-death, and resists spin-equalization tactics; despite the drag from its gimmick, it still holds enough stamina to out-spin Layers such as Alter Chronos, making it a strong pick for stamina-and-defence builds. The community rates it as a top-tier choice for that role, strong enough to have been placed under a Hall of Fame restriction on August 15th, 2017 — the third Burst System part to receive one — limiting play to its stock God Chip or a Metal God Chip rather than a full ban, and even now that the restriction has lifted, it remains a must-have for competitive bladers.

  • Debuted in Japan on July 15th, 2017 with the release of the B-87 Random Booster Vol. 7 Maximum Garuda.8F.Fl.
  • Was placed on the Hall of Fame restriction list on August 15th, 2017, limited to its stock God Chip or a Metal God Chip rather than banned outright.
  • Was the third Burst System part placed on the Hall of Fame restriction list.
  • Its design closely resembles the Flying Defense Attack Ring from the original series.
  • Garuda is a deity from Indian mythology usually shown as a man with bird wings.
  • It was the third Burst System part placed on the Hall of Fame restriction list.

The Competitive View

In theory the internal "Upper Force" blades should lift the Beyblade slightly to reduce tip-to-stadium friction and boost stamina, but in practice they create air resistance that slows it instead, worse the harder it is launched. Despite only one shallow tooth, the perfectly round perimeter produces very little recoil, preventing both Bursts and Knock-Outs, giving high life-after-death, and resisting spin-equalization tactics from opponents; its large size and weight further boost Burst resistance. Defense combo: Maximum Garuda 2Glaive/4Glaive/6Glaive/8Glaive/Yell/Heavy/Gravity Atomic/Defense -- heavy discs add Knock-Out resistance, Glaive frames add life-after-death, and Atomic's free-spinning ring/ball add further life-after-death and Burst resistance, with the Defense tip adding Knock-Out resistance and stamina.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Rated a top-tier Defense layer, with every blader recommended to own this layer.

  • Debut: B-87 Maximum Garuda 8Flow Flugel, July 22, 2017 (Random Booster Vol. 7)
  • Wide, round, smooth perimeter, compared to the Original Plastic Generation's Flying Defense attack ring
  • Gimmick: five internal blades connecting perimeter to center, intended to create "Upper Force"
  • Only one shallow tooth on the Takara Tomy release, the rest supported by shallow slopes similar to Hasbro-style layers
  • Massive overall size contributes to a heavy weight
  • Takara Tomy: B-87 Maximum Garuda 8Flow Flugel (Random Booster Vol. 7, yellow)
