About This Part
Takara Tomy released Guardian Kerbeus in Japan in May 2017 through the BG-06 Random Layer Collection Vol. 6, built for the Burst System's God Layer System. Named for the three-headed hound Cerberus of Greek myth, the Defense Type Layer shows three dog heads around its rim, two seen from above and one in profile, linked by chains moulded from a softer plastic meant to flex inward for a "Bound Defense" gimmick similar to Jerk's.
In Play
The community finds those chains too rigid to actually cushion an impact, so the gimmick lands with the same force solid plastic would, and combined with short teeth this leaves Guardian Kerbeus highly vulnerable to bursting. Despite that fragility, its stamina ranks among the best in the game, letting it beat out top-tier Stamina and Defense Layers such as Drain Fafnir and Maximum Garuda head to head; competitive bladers lean on Glaive or Cross Discs and Revolve, Orbit or Atomic Drivers to stretch that stamina further, though the release of Hell Salamander and Archer Hercules later pushed it out of top form.
- Debuted in Japan in May 2017 in the BG-06 Random Layer Collection Vol. 6.
The Competitive View
Despite high Burst risk from its rigid, ineffective chain gimmick and weak Japanese-release teeth, Guardian Kerbeus posts some of the best Stamina in the game and can beat other top Stamina/Defense layers like Drain Fafnir and Maximum Garuda directly; it is recommended in the Stamina combination Guardian Kerbeus Heavy/Gravity/2/4/5/7/8 Glaive/Cross Revolve/Orbit/Atomic, which is strong versus other Stamina/Defense combos but vulnerable to Attack.
Verdict as the draft gives it: A must-have for competitive bladers despite its weak Burst resistance, on the strength of its Stamina.
- Debuted in BG-06 Random Layer Collection Volume 6, released around May 13, 2017 (date uncertain)
- Three dog-head contact points connected by softer-plastic chain links (Bound Defense gimmick)
- Takara Tomy releases: BG-06 Random Layer Collection Vol. 6 (green and black, translucent yellow God Chip); B-90 Guardian Kerbeus Heavy Revolve (3 on 3 Booster Set), green and orange
Works with
- Synergizes with heavy Core Discs (Heavy/Gravity/2/4/5/7/8) and Life-After-Death Frames (Glaive/Cross) plus free-spinning Drivers (Revolve/Orbit/Atomic).
Related parts named in the draft: Jerk, Drain Fafnir, Maximum Garuda, Dragooon (Zero-G Metal Wheel).
