About This Part

Volcanic-S is Hasbro's SlingShock take on Takara Tomy's Volcanic, made for the Burst System's SlingShock System. It debuted in western countries with the Rail Rush Battle Set. A locking nub inside its socket lets bladers switch it between Battle Ring Mode and SlingShock Mode by twisting the tip clockwise, pulling it down, and twisting again — and reversing that motion to switch back.

In Play

In Battle Ring Mode its textured plate sits a touch lower than the standard Volcanic but plays almost identically, aside from spinning less freely — a trade-off for the SlingShock mechanism — which costs it some stamina. In SlingShock Mode the plate locks in an extended position so the driver can ride the rail of a SlingShock or Rail Rush Beystadium and meet an opponent head-on without the opposing disc scraping; the extra height that requires does raise the odds of disc-to-layer contact but mainly leaves the driver prone to being knocked off balance unless the rival stack sits lower, so Battle Ring Mode is the more reliable of the two. Both modes carry Volcanic's usual shortcomings and fall well behind Destroy, Destroy' and Destroy-S, so it is generally kept for the collection unless a blader specifically wants to run it.
