About This Part

Metal Defense is a Defense-type Driver that Takara Tomy released for the Burst System and the Superking Layer System, debuting with the B-178 Random Booster Vol. 24. It is the Metal Lock version of the Defense Driver: a ball tip at standard height with a mid-height ring and four braking tabs, now paired with a Metal Lock and a stronger spring that add weight and Burst Resistance, though the lock's shorter tabs limit that gain. Its ring sits too low to contact an opponent directly but still contributes to Life-After-Death through its smooth perimeter, and early production used a Metal Lock shape that could damage a Layer's teeth until an October 2021 running change shortened the tabs.

The community treats Metal Defense as versatile for Defense and Stamina but outclassed by other Defense Drivers such as Metal Universe and Atomic', making it mainly a collection piece.
