About This Part
Massive is a Defense-type Driver that Takara Tomy released for the Burst System, debuting in Japan with the B-14 Starter, Wyvern Armed Massive, and reaching the west through Hasbro's Wyvron Armed Massive single pack. It uses a ball-shaped tip at standard height like Defense but with a wider diameter, only three braking tabs, and no defensive ring. The larger surface was meant to boost Defense through added friction, but in practice its wide ball makes floor contact rarer, giving it weaker knock-out resistance and Stamina than Defense while creating a mildly aggressive early-battle movement pattern that pushes it toward the Tornado Ridge.
In Play
The community ranks Massive behind Defense in both Stamina and knock-out resistance, comparable to Metal Fight Beyblade's Wide Ball, and treats it as a collection piece only.
- Released by Takara Tomy in Japan with the B-14 Starter, Wyvern Armed Massive, on September 19th, 2015.
- Released by Hasbro in western countries with the Single Pack, Wyvron Armed Massive.
- A Gold Ver. recolour was distributed in Japan through a Gold Driver Ticket campaign.
- A Limited Color version was distributed in Japan through a store purchase promotion.
- The Gold Ver. Massive Driver was obtained by presenting a Gold Driver Ticket from CoroCoro magazine plus a receipt for Takara Tomy Beyblade Burst products.
- The Limited Color Massive Driver could be obtained by spending up to 2000円 on Takara Tomy Beyblade Burst products at certain stores in Japan.
The Competitive View
The wider ball creates a semi-aggressive early movement pattern toward the Tornado Ridge, but the larger diameter means the tabs rarely strike the stadium floor, giving Massive weaker Knock-Out resistance and stamina than Defense despite avoiding Defense's scrape risk.
Verdict as the draft gives it: Outclassed by Defense in stamina and Knock-Out resistance; rated suitable for collection purposes only.
- Debut: B-14 Starter Wyvern Armed Massive, Sept. 19, 2015
