About This Part

Iron is a Driver Takara Tomy released for the Burst System, the God Layer System and the SwitchStrike System, debuting in Japan on September 15th, 2017 with the B-92 Sieg Xcalibur 1 Iron starter, and later brought west by Hasbro as Surge Xcalius X3 1 Iron. It uses a flat metal tip, echoing the Metal Flat Driver from the Metal Fight Beyblade line, at standard driver height with the same diameter as Accel and Hunter. Its low-friction metal surface gives it a moderately aggressive movement pattern comparable in speed to Accel and Zephyr, and it can hold a stall on the Tornado Ridge.

In Play

Its metal construction gives it greater stamina than Zephyr and lets it resist wear that plastic and rubber tips suffer, making it a strong choice for mobile stamina and attack/stamina balance play, though the same low friction makes it prone to losing a banking pattern and to self-knockouts in unbalanced builds, and its comparatively weak spring lock means pairing it with a layer that has sturdy teeth, such as Twin Nemesis.

  • Released in Japan on September 15th, 2017 with the B-92 Sieg Xcalibur 1 Iron starter.
  • Released in western markets by Hasbro with the SwitchStrike Surge Xcalius X3 1 Iron starter pack.

The Competitive View

Creates a moderately aggressive, controllable movement pattern (especially with a Banking Shoot) at speeds comparable to Accel and Zephyr. Low metal friction improves Burst resistance and gives it more stamina than even Zephyr, and unlike plastic (Xtreme) or rubber (Zephyr) tips it doesn't wear down or get damaged. Weaknesses: low friction lets it slip off the Tornado Ridge and get Knocked Out when hit from behind, and unbalanced Attack builds using it can lose their banking pattern easily. Cited combo: Maximum Garuda/Guardian Kerbeus Gravity/2/4/5/7/8 Glaive/Cross Iron, a Mobile Stamina/Tornado Staller build where Iron's low friction offsets the Burst risk of heavy, high-OWD discs.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Strong for speed, stamina and Burst resistance but weak on Knock-Out resistance and prone to losing its attack pattern; called a welcome addition rather than a must-have.
