About This Part

Hunter is a Driver Takara Tomy released for the Burst System, the God Layer System and the SwitchStrike System, debuting in Japan on July 1st, 2017 with the B-85 Killer Deathscyther 2Vortex Hunter booster, and later reaching western shelves through Hasbro's SwitchStrike Krusher Doomscizor D3 2Vortex Hunter starter. It carries a rubber flat tip whose center holds a circular depression, similar to Xtreme, sitting at standard driver height. Its speed lands between Accel and Xtreme, and its rubber grip helps hold a banking pattern in battle.

In Play

The rubber's high friction leaves Hunter with poor stamina and raises the risk of self-bursting on contact, and the tip wears down with repeated use, so competitive builds lean on it mainly when paired with parts carrying heavy outward weight distribution, where it can rival Xtreme; otherwise it is considered a secondary attack option rather than a top pick. Hasbro's version uses softer rubber that adds speed and control and offsets the centering issue the Takara Tomy release shows.

  • Released in Japan on July 1st, 2017 with the B-85 Killer Deathscyther 2Vortex Hunter booster.
  • Released in western markets by Hasbro with the SwitchStrike Krusher Doomscizor D3 2Vortex Hunter starter pack.

The Competitive View

Hunter's high friction gives it strong, controllable attacks but drains stamina quickly, raises self-burst risk by transferring more force into a layer's teeth or slopes, and wears down over use without gaining stamina in return; unproven reports suggest a heavily worn Hunter may shift toward defensive behavior as it rounds off.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Not a must-have since Xtreme offers more speed and Accel offers more stamina at similar control, but a welcome addition worth owning in multiples if preferred, to replace worn copies.
