About This Part

Guard is a Driver Takara Tomy released for the Burst System, the God Layer System and the SwitchStrike System, debuting in Japan on August 11th, 2017 with the B-89 Booster, Blast Jinnius 5Glaive Guard, and reaching the west through Hasbro's SwitchStrike Starter Pack, Blast Jinnius J3 5Glaive Guard. It pairs a ball tip with a downward-facing dish that can slide vertically, meant to strike the stadium floor and right the beyblade after a hit while the dish's motion was intended to guard against stamina loss. In practice the moving dish cannot stabilize on the stadium's curve, and because it doesn't spin freely it pushes the beyblade into faster movement rather than slowing it, worsening the loss of balance it was meant to prevent.

In Play

Community testing places Guard behind drivers such as Defense in both knock-out resistance and stamina, and even its life-after-death potential from the dish is outclassed by Destroy and Atomic, leaving it recommended mainly for collecting.

The Competitive View

Because a struck Beyblade lists at an angle rather than pushing straight down, the dish tends to lock up instead of moving freely, and its lack of a free-spinning design plus low mounting position cause significant stamina drain instead of the intended cushioning effect; the dish's smooth rim also stops the Beyblade less effectively than Defense's tabs while still losing more stamina.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Outclassed by tips like Defense and Atomic in both knockout resistance and stamina; recommended for collection purposes only.
