Biography

In the manga continuity, Ryuga is the ancient king of the Dragon Clan and owner of L-Drago, debuting as the Battle Bladers arc's main antagonist within Dark Nebula before returning as a supporting figure during Big Bang Bladers. Raised specifically to destroy Pegasus and its owner's lineage, he defeats Ryo Hagane and repeatedly battles Gingka Hagane as L-Drago evolves through numerous manga-exclusive forms fueled by absorbed power.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

Muscular yet slim, with spiky white hair and amber eyes, Ryuga originally goes around in a ripped t-shirt and a torn cloak; by the time of Battle Bladers his look has changed to match his anime counterpart's — a black-and-gold tank top under a white coat, worn with black pants, the coat's sleeves always left empty rather than pulled over his arms. His crown and gauntlet, relics of the Dragon Clan he belongs to, round out his appearance, with L-Drago kept inside the gauntlet.

Ryuga starts out cruel and sadistic, taking pleasure in grinding down his enemies' Beys until they're thoroughly beaten, and carries himself with a cocky certainty that he's superior to every other Blader. That attitude leaves him with no patience for what he considers weakness, even among his own allies such as Doji, and he enjoys taunting opponents, as when he goads Gingka over his father's supposed death.

Briefing

What to know

  • Manga-only backstory establishes him as the ancient king of the Dragon Clan, destined to wield L-Drago against Pegasus.
  • First targets and defeats Ryo Hagane, Gingka's father, before pursuing Gingka himself.
  • L-Drago evolves repeatedly through battle-earned power-ups, from L-Drago 105F up to the Synchrome System version seen in a ZeroG-era omake.
  • His original manga attire, a ripped shirt and torn cloak, eventually gives way to a design matching his anime look by the Battle Bladers arc.
  • Wins his rematch against Ginga Hagane in the Battle Bladers arc, unlike the anime's outcome for that fight.
  • Creator Takafumi Adachi has stated Ryuga's surname and true age are deliberately left unrevealed.
  • Ryuto calls him 'brother' because both hail from the same Dragon Clan.

Claims We Could Not Check

  • Creator Takafumi Adachi has said Ryuga's surname and exact age are deliberately left a mystery.
  • His manga attire changes between the original Metal Fight Beyblade look and a later design that matches his anime appearance.
  • Ryuto's 'brother' nickname for him comes from their shared Dragon Clan origin, not an actual sibling bond.
