Biography

In the Metal Fight Beyblade manga, Benkei Hanawa starts as a ruthless enforcer for Kyouya Tategami's Face Hunters, bullying weaker bladers and stringing their Beys into a trophy necklace. After Kenta Yumiya and Ginga Hagane humble the gang, Kyouya disbands it and personally trains Benkei into a genuine partner rather than a puppet, upgrading his Bull into Dark Bull H145SD. At Battle Bladers, Benkei's brute strength briefly overwhelms Ryuuga's L-Drago, but this only feeds L-Drago's evolution into Lightning L-Drago, which destroys Bull and injures him — a defeat that nonetheless cements his bond with Kyouya.

Appearance and personality

What They Look Like, and How They Behave

This version of Benkei has a round, heavyset build carried through both his body and face, with an oval nose, wide eyes, full cheeks and a firm, prominent jaw. He originally kept his hair short with bushy eyebrows and untamed sideburns, topped off with an oversized jacket worn over a t-shirt, a necklace strung with Beyblades, sandals and shorts — a look built to intimidate. After he leaves the Face Hunters and trains under Kyouya, the whole presentation softens: he takes to a beanie bearing a bull-skull emblem, trims his sideburns to a point, and wears a longsleeved jacket hanging loose over his shorts, finished with fingerless gloves and boots.

He starts out as little more than an extension of Kyouya's will, mimicking his bullying streak by picking on weaker bladers such as Kenta, turning nasty toward rivals and visibly stung whenever he loses. Training alongside Kyouya reshapes him into a friendlier, far more determined person driven simply by his love of Beyblade. His devotion to Kyouya only deepens through this change, but the relationship itself shifts — he becomes a partner standing beside Kyouya rather than a puppet following orders.

Brute strength briefly overpowered L-Drago itself, which only fed its evolution; he loses every listed match but earns Kyouya's respect doing it.
