About This Part

Spriggan takes its name and face design from a mischievous creature out of Cornish folklore, and Takara Tomy built it as a dual-spin Superking Chip for the Burst System's Superking Layer System. Because it spins in either direction, a standard metal Chip Core will not fit it, so a metal core is moulded directly into the chip itself. It first went on sale in Japan on September 19th, 2020, inside the B-172 Booster World Spriggan Unite' 2B.

In Play

Spriggan pairs with any Ring and is considered strongest on the dual-spin World Ring, since switching World's spin direction lets a blader answer whatever the opponent throws at them.

  • Released in Japan on September 19th, 2020 as part of the B-172 Booster World Spriggan Unite' 2B.
  • Reissued in the B-186 Random Booster Vol. 26 as Variant Spriggan Convert High Hold' 1S.
  • Spriggan was the second dual-spin Superking Chip, after Diabolos.
  • It was the third Superking Chip built with its Chip Core fused into the piece, following Lucifer 1 and Diabolos.

The Competitive View

Delivers occasional surprisingly strong hits whether mobile (on Accel) or stationary (on Defense/Survive), but lacks the consistency of more aggressive layers, and even paired with the top-tier Xtreme driver it remains behind Xcalibur and Valkyrie for Attack, with no shown potential in other combo types.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Outclassed by Xcalibur and especially the more versatile Valkyrie even with a top-tier driver; not a priority purchase.

  • Weight: 7.7 grams (below the roughly 8.0-gram Layer average)
  • Three prominent side bumps forming a pendulum-like weight distribution; ascending tooth heights ending in a tall third tooth and small fourth tooth

Works with

  • Works with the Xtreme driver for attack, though still outclassed by Xcalibur/Valkyrie combos.

Related parts named in the draft: Xcalibur, Valkyrie, Amaterios, Xtreme.
