About This Part

Takara Tomy's Curse is a right-spin Defense Type Ring, first reaching Japan on April 25th, 2020 inside B-164 Random Booster Vol. 20. Five main wings, each carrying three small blades, are arranged to keep recoil down, and free-spinning plastic rollers fill the gaps between them, attached only from underneath. Any right-spin or dual-spin Superking Chip and Chassis will fit it.

In Play

The rollers are meant to soak up recoil by spinning freely on impact, but they don't cover enough of the rim to get hit reliably and stick out far enough to add extra recoil of their own, and Curse's generally rough perimeter compounds the problem. A thick underside keeps the Chip riding high enough to expose the Chassis teeth well, so Burst Resistance stays strong, and the mostly round outline still lets it hold up in Defense/Stamina Combinations through destabilization or spin equalization. Even so, the community rates options like Archer Hercules, Orb Egis, Cho-Z Spriggan, Perfect Phoenix, Lord and Master ahead of it for those matchups, leaving Curse better suited to a collection than a tournament bag.

  • Debuted in Japan on April 25th, 2020 with B-164 Random Booster Vol. 20.

The Competitive View

The large rollers reliably deflect hits (unlike predecessor Kreis Satan's smaller, recoil-prone rollers), and the overall round shape gives good life-after-death; rollers occasionally chip or break off with heavy use.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Rated a must-have defensive Ring since the deflection gimmick functions as intended without sacrificing the round shape's life-after-death.

  • Debut: B-164 Random Booster Vol. 20, April 25, 2020 (Japan)
  • Five large rollers along the edge
  • Predecessor named Kreis Satan, whose rollers were smaller and prone to recoil instead of deflection
