About This Part
Takara Tomy carried the Spriggan line forward from Legend Spriggan into Spriggan Requiem, a God Layer System piece that debuted in Japan on December 28th, 2017 with the B-100 Starter Spriggan Requiem 0 Zeta. Its circular outline with small indents recalls Jail Jormungand, and its two heads reference the spriggan of Cornish faery lore, while a large double-bladed axe runs from the center out to the rim. Three gimmicks are packed into the piece: teeth for both Right-Spin and Left-Spin use, carried over from Legend Spriggan; rubber sections for spin-equalization, as seen on Drain Fafnir; and a fixed Metal God Chip adding weight, in the fashion of Legend Spriggan, Sieg Xcalibur, Lost Longinus and Nightmare Longinus.
In Play
Its round build makes little practical difference between its two spin settings, so the community sets it against the opponent's spin direction to favor Defense and Stamina over Attack. The rubber sections let it equalize spin against an opposite-spinning opponent, a smaller echo of Drain Fafnir's own effect, and the piece's thickness gives it high inertia and outward weight distribution that make it a top choice for Defense and Stamina Combinations, strong enough that it was banned from WBO tournament play for a time before later Cho-Z Layers such as Archer Hercules and Hell Salamander overtook it. Two teeth on each spin setting are thinned to allow the dual-spin gimmick to work, so they wear down quickly, and owning spares is worth doing.
- Debuted in Japan on December 28th, 2017 via the B-100 Starter Spriggan Requiem 0 Zeta.
- Reissued as a Super Rare Color Ver., recolored black and gold with a red god chip.
- Reissued as the 06 slot of B-111 Random Booster Vol. 10 Crash Ragnaruk.11R.Wd.
- Reissued with a minor change as the 02 slot of B-132 Random Booster Vol. 14, again in the Super Rare Color Ver.
- Released in Flame, Golden and Silver Axe colorways as standalone B-00 pieces.
- The odds of pulling the black Super Rare Color Ver. from a B-100 Starter are given as 1 in 72.
- Takara Tomy's nickname for the piece, the "God Slayer," is thought to play on the English rendering of "God Layer."
The Competitive View
The Dual Spin gimmick changes recoil depending on setting and the opponent's spin direction, and the high-friction rubber parts let it Spin-Equalize against opposite-spin opponents to outspin them, or brake against same-spin opponents to force them to Burst against Spriggan Requiem's own stronger Burst resistance.
- Debuted in B-100 Starter Spriggan Requiem 0 Zeta, released December 28, 2017
- Dual Spin gimmick with two sets of teeth (Right Spin Mode / Left Spin Mode) on the Japanese release
- Rubber parts for Spin Equalization
- Non-removable Metal God Chip
- Takara Tomy releases: B-100 Spriggan Requiem 0 Zeta (red and gold, white rubber, blue god chip); B-100 Spriggan Requiem 0 Zeta Rare Random Black Version (black and gold, white rubber, red god chip)
