About This Part

Takara Tomy sold this piece, stylized Shining αmaterios and also called Burning Amaterios, as a Cho-Z Layer System entry in the Burst line, launching in Japan on September 21st, 2018 with the B-00 booster Shining Amaterios Aero'Angle Anchor. Following on from Shadow Amaterios, it centers its two sets of five alternating blades on an image of Amaterasu, the sun goddess of Japanese myth. Five of the blades carry metal edging with plastic tips that push outward to widen the Layer's reach, while the other five stay fixed with a pair of plastic nubs each; against its predecessor it trims off roughly half a gram and smooths out the moving blades.

In Play

The design aims for a versatile Attack piece with both a rapid-fire hitting pattern and heavier blows from its metal-lined blades, but the gaps between blades are too narrow for that role and the extending gimmick seldom fires, so competitive players instead run it on Stamina builds, where its shape holds up well in both same-spin and opposite-spin matchups. Like other Cho-Z Layers, a Level Chip fitted beneath it can add weight and cut Burst risk further.
