About This Part

Takara Tomy released Shelter Regulus for the Burst System's God Layer System line, debuting in Japan on October 21st, 2017 through B-95 Random Booster Vol. 8. Two lion heads and two lion claws sit on either side of the Balance Type piece, a nod to Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo. Its claws and heads can push outward or pull back in battle, switching between an Attack Mode and a Defense Mode much like the Variares Metal Wheel from Metal Fight Beyblade did before it.

In Play

Centrifugal force is meant to widen the gaps between heads and claws early on for Burst Attack, then let them retract as spin slows to cut down on Stamina-draining recoil for an Out-Spin finish, but the change barely registers in practice and the perimeter stays square even in Defense Mode, keeping the recoil the gimmick was meant to remove. Combined with weak teeth, that square shape leaves it bursting far too easily to hold up in competition, and the community recommends it for collecting rather than play.

  • Debuted in Japan on October 21st, 2017 via B-95 Random Booster Vol. 8 Shelter Regulus.5S.Tw.
  • Reissued as the 07 slot of B-125 Random Booster Vol. 12 Dead Hades.11T.Z'.
  • Included as the 04 slot of BG-09 Random Layer Collection Vol. 9.
  • Its extend-and-retract gimmick mirrors Variares' own, only in reverse.
  • Because the Ragnaruk line also identifies itself with the letter R, Shelter Regulus is marked with a reversed R to tell the two apart.

The Competitive View

Extension is meant to increase attack-oriented gaps early in battle at high spin speed, then retraction later reduces recoil for defense; the author withholds real performance claims pending testing and is especially skeptical of Defense Mode given the Layer's square shape.

  • Extend/retract lion-head and claw gimmick driven by centrifugal force
  • Product: B-95 Random Booster Vol. 8 Shelter Regulus 5Star Tower (blue and yellow plastic)
  • Gimmick noted as identical to Variares but reversed

Related parts named in the draft: Variares.
