About This Part

Lost Longinus is a wide, heavy Attack Type Layer that Takara Tomy released for the Burst System and the Dual Layer System, launching in Japan on December 28th, 2016 with the B-66 Starter, Lost Longinus Nine Spiral. Two large dragon heads sweep in from the rim toward the centre, standing in for the beast of the anime's rendition, alongside four wings — two larger ones forming the main strike points and two smaller secondary ones — for an aggressive, high-recoil build, with the larger wings' contact points shaped like spearheads for the Layer's namesake, the Roman soldier Longinus of Christian legend who is said to have pierced Christ's side. Metal dragon heads made it one of the heaviest Layers of its era, and it spins left, against the direction of every Burst Beyblade before it.

In Play

Its heavy build generates strong inertia that, paired with the aggressive shape, drives strong Knock-Out and Burst-attack results against other left-spinning rivals, though spinning opposite a right-spin rival's Layer can see the two mesh like gears at similar speeds, cutting recoil and Burst rate sharply — even so, the shape can still produce solid Knock-Outs in those mixed-spin matches and offers some spin-equalization, without being the main strategy for a build. Three mid-to-tall teeth withstand that recoil even against another left-spinner, aided by the extra Burst resistance its weight and inertia provide against tooth-skipping. Once one of the strongest Knock-Out attackers around and shielded from being outclassed on weight alone even after the SwitchStrike and God Layer Systems arrived, it was eventually surpassed by its own successor, Nightmare Longinus, which does better against both same-spin and opposite-spin rivals, and Dual Layers overall now sit well behind later releases; the community treats it as a collection piece in the standard format, a decent but non-essential option behind Bloody Longinus in the Limited format, and not legal at all in the Burst Classic format.
