About This Part

Legend Spriggan is a Balance Type Layer that Takara Tomy released for the Burst System and the God Layer System in Japan on July 1st, 2017, launching with the B-86 Starter, Legend Spriggan 7 Merge. Four broad blades make up its mould, two carrying faces for the Spriggans of Cornish faery lore, while the centre shows a double-bladed axe standing in for the beast's anime weapon; a fixed metal God Chip and true dual-spin teeth for both Right-Spin and Left-Spin modes give the Layer two distinct gimmicks.

In Play

Because the mould is asymmetrical, how it performs shifts with spin direction. In Right-Spin Mode, contact mostly lands on the black blades, sloped for upper attacks, though their thickness usually shifts contact to the tips instead, producing spike-style hits and heavy Burst attack, and the compact shape means it needs a fast, high-friction rubber tip such as Xtreme to avoid Bursting itself. In Left-Spin Mode, the flat faces of the clear blades aim for smash-style hits, but the Burst System's mechanics turn that heavy recoil into a high self-Burst risk instead, and while that mode can hold up against other left-spinning Layers such as Drain Fafnir, Right-Spin Mode wins out overall. Its heavy build and strong teeth make it a leading choice for attack builds despite being poorly suited to stationary play, though two teeth on each spin set are as thin as those on single Layers and wear down quickly, so the community recommends keeping spares on hand; Sieg Xcalibur has since overtaken it in Right-Spin attack and Nightmare Longinus in Left-Spin attack, leaving it a solid but no longer essential pickup.

  • Debuted in Japan on July 1st, 2017 with the release of the B-86 Starter, Legend Spriggan 7 Merge.
  • Was the first Layer to carry a Metal God Chip, though a fixed, non-removable one.
  • Was the first dual-spin Layer released.
  • Legend Spriggan was the first Layer built with a Metal God Chip, though that chip could not be removed.
  • It was also the first dual-spin Layer released.

The Competitive View

Its strong teeth and jagged contact points make it well suited to Upper Attack and Smash Attack combinations, and these traits are considered to make it superior to its predecessors in those roles.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Legend Spriggan is considered the best Attack Energy Layer in the Burst metagame at the time, highly recommended for every competitive blader's collection.

  • Weight: 15 grams, later revised to 14.5 grams
  • Debuted in B-86 Starter Legend Spriggan.7.Mr, released July 1, 2017
  • Four sets of thick teeth for Dual Rotation support
  • Non-removable Metal God Chip
  • Takara Tomy releases: B-86 Starter Legend Spriggan.7.Mr; CoroCoro Lottery Prize Legend Spriggan Flame Axe Ver.

Related parts named in the draft: Xcalibur (mistaken for its God Layer by some fans on release).
