About This Part

Takara Tomy put Killer Deathscyther on sale in Japan on July 1st, 2017 inside the B-85 Booster, Killer Deathscyther 2Vortex Hunter, building it as an Attack Type Layer for the Burst System and the God Layer System. Its six-blade mould shows a forward-facing hooded skull gripping a scythe, standing in for the Grim Reaper as death's personification, and continues the earlier Dark Deathscyther's split of two sloped coloured blades for light upper strikes against four flat clear blades built for Burst damage; a God Chip gimmick lets a translucent blade slide along the coloured pair for what is billed as a second hit.

In Play

That sliding blade is meant to lag behind on launch and then snap forward once the Beyblade slows on contact, but in practice it carries too little mass to land a meaningful second strike and often the whole Beyblade bounces away before the blade can even shift; the thicker, shallower coloured blades needed to house the mechanism also blunt the intended upper-attack and destabilization effect, and the sliding piece frequently can't clear the coloured blade at all. Between a design too compact for real attack power, too heavy and uneven for defence or stamina, and a gimmick that gets in its own way, the community rates it as outclassed by Sieg Xcalibur and Legend Spriggan on offence, Alter Chronos on defence, Guardian Kerbeus and Deep Chaos on stamina, and even its own predecessor Dark Deathscyther, leaving it fit for a collection rather than competitive play.

  • Debuted in Japan on July 1st, 2017 with the release of the B-85 Booster, Killer Deathscyther 2Vortex Hunter.

The Competitive View

The sliding translucent blade is meant to retract on spin-up and snap forward to strike a second time once the Beyblade slows from contact, but in practice it has too little mass to matter and the Beyblade typically rebounds away before it can slide forward in time; the colored blade section is also too thick and shallow-angled for its intended Upper Attack/Destabilization role, and the translucent blade doesn't even clear the colored blade to make contact at all. Its design is more aggressive and recoil-heavy than predecessors Doomscizor/Doomscizor D2, unsuiting it for their signature Defense/Stamina roles, yet its blades remain too compact for real Attack power; overall imbalance saps stamina further, offering only minor destabilization potential that other layers such as Alter Chronos achieve with more stamina to spare.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Outclassed on all fronts -- by Sieg Xcalibur and Legend Spriggan for Attack, Alter Chronos for Defense, Guardian Kerbeus for Stamina, and even by predecessor Doomscizor D2 for both Defense and Stamina; recommended for collection purposes only.

  • Debut: B-85 Booster Killer Deathscyther 2Vortex Hunter, June 24, 2017
  • Forward-facing hooded skull holding a scythe; five or six blades (exact count uncertain in the record), with one or two colored/sloped blades (light Upper Attack/Destabilization) and the rest clear/unsloped (meant for Burst Attack)
  • Gimmick: a translucent blade on the colored section slides via centripetal force to create a "Double Strike" second hit
  • Takara Tomy: B-82 Killer Deathscyther 2Vortex Hunter (black and silver, translucent blue God Chip); Killer Deathscyther Quarter (tip unspecified, Random Booster Vol. 8)

Related parts named in the draft: Doomscizor, Doomscizor D2, Sieg Xcalibur, Legend Spriggan, Alter Chronos, Guardian Kerbeus.
