About This Part

Kerbeus was Takara Tomy's fourth Layer for the Burst System, launching in Japan on July 18th, 2015 as the centrepiece of the B-04 Starter, Kerbeus Central Defense. The round mould depicts Cerberus, the three-headed hound of Greek myth, breathing flame, with two heads set together under the clear casing on one side and the third opposite them, and a rim carrying sixteen alternating-length protrusions.

In Play

The lopsided head placement barely affects balance in practice, and although the rim looks built to grind down an opponent's Layer, it instead adds recoil and makes Kerbeus easier to out-spin; even so, its round shape gives it fair stamina and defensive footing, and it proved tough to Burst during its early run. The community regards it as the first go-to pick for defence and stamina builds in the line's opening wave, since eclipsed by Layers such as Odin and now too light against the SwitchStrike and God Layer Systems, so it stands today as a collection piece rather than a tournament option.

  • Debuted in Japan on July 18th, 2015 with the release of the B-04 Starter, Kerbeus Central Defense.
  • Was the fourth Layer released in the first wave of Burst products.
  • Kerbeus kept its name unchanged when Hasbro brought the Beyblade Burst line west, unlike most Layers that were renamed.
  • Its mould closely echoes the Poison Metal Wheel from the earlier Metal Fight Beyblade generation.

The Competitive View

Its rim's uneven protrusions grind unfavorably against opponents rather than in its favor, causing Outspin losses, though its circular shape gives decent stamina/defense and it was historically hard to burst.

Verdict as the draft gives it: The go-to early Defense/Stamina layer of the Burst generation, since outclassed by later layers like Odin; now recommended only if better options aren't available.

  • Weight: 8.0 grams
  • 16 rim protrusions (half larger, half smaller)
