About This Part
Takara Tomy debuted Hell Salamander in Japan on May 26th, 2018 with the B-113 Booster, Hell Salamander 12 Operate, built for the Burst System's Cho-Z Layer System. Named for the fire-dwelling salamander of legend, the Balance Type Layer carries ten blades beneath a dragon's head, and half of those blades are lined in metal, making it heavier than most God Layers.
In Play
It spins left and shifts between a rounder, low-recoil Defense Mode with all ten blades spread apart and a five-blade Attack Mode with wider gaps for a more aggressive profile; its left-spin nature cuts recoil against right-spin rivals in either mode, and in Attack Mode the added metal boosts both knock-out and burst attack while its inertia in both modes resists tooth-skipping, offsetting middling teeth and giving it stamina the community rates equal to or better than Crash Ragnaruk's. Like other Cho-Z Layers it runs unbalanced, though less severely than most, an issue a Level Chip fitted beneath it can correct; competitive bladers build stamina and defence combinations around its Defense Mode with heavy Discs and Atomic, Orbit, Yard or Eternal Drivers, and attack combinations in its Attack Mode with Xtreme or Jolt Drivers, though such builds struggle against right-spin foes. Despite once holding some of the highest stamina in the game, the community now considers it too light for current top-level play.
- Debuted in Japan on May 26th, 2018 in the B-113 Booster, Hell Salamander 12 Operate.
- Reissued in the B-125 Random Booster Vol. 12 as Hell Salamander Gravity Yielding.
- Reissued in the B-130 Random Booster Vol. 13 as Hell Salamander 13 Blow'.
- Reissued in the B-173 Random Booster Vol. 22 as Hell Salamander Outer Universe.
The Competitive View
In Defense Mode the rounder, gear-like blade arrangement combined with Left Spin sharply cuts recoil and burst rate against both right- and left-spin opponents; Attack Mode's wider gaps raise recoil only marginally since the Left Spin and blade angle still suppress it against most opponents.
Verdict as the draft gives it: The author expresses more confidence in Defense Mode, hoping for 'another Alter Chronos situation,' but withholds a final tier verdict pending testing.
- Ten blades total, five metal-lined
- Left Spin
- Two selectable blade configurations: Defense Mode and Attack Mode
Related parts named in the draft: Alter Chronos.
