About This Part

Modelled on the classic image of Death as a hooded, skeletal scythe-wielder, Deathscyther is a four-bladed, smooth-sided layer that Takara Tomy released in Japan with the B-12 Starter, Deathscyther Oval Accel, on August 8th, 2015, as part of the Burst System. Its coloured plastic sits mostly at the centre and around half its rim, and its three teeth step down in height — a tall first tooth, a mid-height second, and a short third — giving it a strong flywheel effect suited to stamina play.

In Play

Its smooth profile resists destabilization and reverse teeth-skipping, letting it hold ground through a stamina match almost undisturbed, and the community once ran it as a top-tier stamina piece to the point of a competitive ban; the arrival of the heavier SwitchStrike/God Layer System has since left it too light to remain competitive, so it now rates as a collector's item.

  • Released in Japan in the B-12 Starter, Deathscyther Oval Accel, on August 8th, 2015.
  • Banned from wbba.-run tournaments in Japan on August 15th, 2016, over its competitive dominance, becoming the first Burst System part placed on the Hall of Fame restriction list.
  • Banned from the WBO's Burst format on May 15th, 2017, for the same reason, and unbanned four months later on September 17th, 2017.

The Competitive View

Excels at pure stamina battles, holding its ground against most opponents' impacts due to its flywheel-effect shape and resistant teeth; used in Deathscyther Heavy/Ring/Spread Defense/Survive (stability-focused stamina combo) and Deathscyther Heavy/Spread/Ring Accel/Blow/Zephyr (mobile stamina combo that avoids contact).

Verdict as the draft gives it: Top-tier for stamina combos, especially notable once the rival Odin layer was banned from WBO tournament play; considered the best in its category at the time.

  • Weight: 7.9 grams
  • Four-bladed hooded-skull design; three teeth in descending height order (tall, medium, short)

Works with

  • Pairs with Heavy, Ring or Spread discs and Defense/Survive or Accel/Blow/Zephyr drivers depending on stationary vs. mobile stamina strategy.

Related parts named in the draft: Odin, Basalt.
