About This Part

Named for the Greek hero, Cho-Z Achilles carries a forward-facing armoured face and shield at its centre and four large blade points, two shaped like swords, and Takara Tomy launched it in Japan with the B-129 Starter, Cho-Z Achilles 00 Dimension, on December 27th, 2018, before Hasbro brought it west as a Pro Series Starter Pack. Metal concentrated on the sword blades adds mass for knockout and burst-attack power, and a bistable "Cho-Z Awakening System" gimmick pops out sub-wings and burst-stopper tabs at high spin speed to jam the disc and resist bursting, though the wings must be pushed back in by hand after each match.

In Play

Its weight, strong teeth and largely consistent gimmick — the small, recessed wings barely change its attack profile whether or not they trigger — made it one of the strongest right-spin attack layers at release and steadier to use than Cho-Z Valkyrie, though its contact points wear down with use and it was later outclassed by the Dynamite Battle System; the community treats it as a worthwhile pickup rather than a must-have. Hasbro's Pro Series version is built the same way but from weaker materials.

  • Released in Japan in the B-129 Starter, Cho-Z Achilles 00 Dimension, on December 27th, 2018.
  • Released in western countries by Hasbro as a Pro Series Starter Pack.
  • Hasbro's F2292 Elite Champions Pro Set release is identical to Takara Tomy's Super Rare Color Ver. of the B-129 Starter.

The Competitive View

Metal placed near the point of impact boosts knockout and burst attack and burst resistance via inertia resisting tooth-skipping, but like other Cho-Z/Cho-Z Awaken layers it is unbalanced, which raises burst risk, breaks banking patterns, and drains stamina.

Verdict as the draft gives it: It is considered good for attack combos, though the billed 'Balance Type' classification is questioned given the high-recoil design.

  • Metal-lined blades
  • Tall teeth on the Takara Tomy release
  • Blades prone to denting or chipping given how far they protrude
