About This Part

Buster Xcalibur is a Takara Tomy layer built around the legend of Excalibur, released in Japan with the B-120 Starter, Buster Xcalibur 1' Sword, on August 11th, 2018, as part of both the Burst System and the Cho-Z Layer System. A long metal sword runs the length of the piece with a plastic-capped tip protruding at the bottom as its main contact point, and a "Buster Mode" gimmick lets that sword extend further out, lining up with the Magnum, 1, and 1' discs after two clicks. Its asymmetrical metal blade adds mass for knockout and burst-attack power but also leaves the piece markedly unbalanced.

In Play

The heavy, imbalanced blade drives strong attack combinations but drains stamina and risks losing banking pattern, and a weak gimmick lock can slip the piece into Buster Mode mid-battle; the community rates it on par with or better than Winning Valkyrie in same-spin matchups but weaker in opposite-spin ones, and it was later outclassed by Cho-Z Valkyrie, Cho-Z Achilles and the Gatinko System's Slash Layer Base.

  • Released in Japan in the B-120 Starter, Buster Xcalibur 1' Sword, on August 11th, 2018.

The Competitive View

The pronounced, heavy sword tip and metal weight give very high recoil and burst/knockout attack, especially with heavy discs like 0/1/1'/7/10 Bump/Meteor and fast tips like Xtreme/Jolt, but the asymmetric weight destabilizes banking patterns and drains stamina unless corrected with a Level Chip; Atomic instead gives it a stationary-attack/stamina hybrid mode with added life-after-death.

Verdict as the draft gives it: Rated a must-have, top-tier attack Layer, on par with or better than Winning Valkyrie.

  • Metal sword blade with a plastic-covered tip
  • Extend/retract gimmick; recommended fully extended for competitive use
  • Retracting the sword exposes a Level Chip slot

Works with

  • Compatible with a Level Chip when the sword is extended.
