About This Part
Breaker Xcalius X4 is Hasbro's SlingShock System take on Takara Tomy's Buster Xcalibur, launched in western markets through the SlingShock Starter Pack Breaker Xcalius X4 1' Sword-S. A long sword runs the length of the Layer, its protruding tip forming the main contact point, and that tip juts out further than on earlier Xcalius releases for stronger knock-out and burst attack. The sword itself is now part silver-painted plastic rather than solid metal, cutting roughly 5 grams from its predecessor Surge Xcalius X3's weight and pushing the remaining metal closer to the tip, which leaves the part more off-balance overall. A slide-out gimmick lets the sword extend further into a "Breaker Mode" that pushes the imbalance even further, though its locking mechanism is weaker than the one on the Takara Tomy version and can slip back into "Normal Mode" mid-battle. Like other SlingShock Layers, it accepts a Level Chip fitted underneath for extra weight and balance.
In Play
It carries the same shortcomings as Buster Xcalibur while weighing even less than its own predecessor Surge Xcalius X3, and its comparatively weak slopes combine with the low burst resistance of Hasbro's rubber attack drivers to leave it prone to bursting; as a result it trails most SwitchStrike Layers such as Legend Spryzen S3 and Surge Xcalius X3, and the community recommends it mainly as a piece for a collection.
- Released by Hasbro as E4735 Breaker Xcalius X4 1' Sword-S.
- It was the first SlingShock Layer to include any metal, though less than Buster Xcalibur carries.
