Twin dragons gripping the centre hole give Fafnir its shape, a left-spin Gatinko Chip Takara Tomy issued for the Burst System's Gatinko Layer System, first appearing in Japan on April 27th, 2019 inside the B-139 Starter Wizard Fafnir Ratchet Rise Sen. Hasbro carried the same part into western markets through its Evo Elite Champions Pro Set, using cheaper plastic than the Japanese release. The design represents the mythological figure Fafnir, and the chip carries a standard weight with four ordinary locks that give it average Burst Resistance.
In Play
Community assessment ranks Fafnir behind other left-spin Gatinko Chips with stronger Burst Resistance, and the only legal left-spin Layer Base in the WBO's Burst Limited Format, Erase, is not itself considered strong, so the chip is treated as a collection piece in every ratified format including Classic, where it is not legal at all.
