About This Part

Takara Tomy introduced Achilles as a right-spin Gatinko Chip on September 21st, 2019, in Japan through the B-150 Booster, Union Achilles Convert Xtend+ Retsu; Hasbro brought it west later inside a Pro Series Starter Pack. An armoured face and sword stand in for the Greek hero the chip is named for, and it carries a standard weight for its category. Two hard locks and two standard locks give it the highest lock count of any Gatinko Chip, which in turn makes it the sturdiest against bursting even without a Dash Driver fitted. Hasbro's version is built the same way but from weaker plastic.

In Play

Community consensus ranks Achilles as the strongest right-spin Gatinko Chip for burst resistance, and pairing it with the Goku Weight is considered close to ideal for right-spin combinations; even so, players treat Gatinko Layer System Layers as too light to compete at a high level, so Achilles is mostly kept for collecting rather than tournament play. In the WBO's Burst Limited Format it is valued for any right-spin base, though not treated as essential since Gatinko Layers see little competitive use there, and the WBO's Burst Classic Format does not permit it at all.
