About This Part
Takara Tomy issued Variares as a 4D Metal Wheel, debuting in Japan on July 16, 2011 with the BB-114 Starter Variares D:D and reaching western markets in January 2013 through the BB-114-FX Starter Pack. Thick and three-winged, it spins in either direction and, like L-Drago Destructor, takes over the Energy Ring's job as well as the Fusion Wheel's. Each wing ends in a sharp point for heavy Smash Attack and carries six graduated indents along its length for Spike Attack, while a yellow PC Frame sits fitted between the wings rather than assembled separately, as on other 4D wheels.
In Play
Its PC Frame protrusions pull inward at high spin speed to bare more metal for Smash Attack in what the community calls its Attack Mode, then extend back out as speed drops to add plastic contact and cut recoil in Defense Mode; despite carrying a Defense Type classification, Variares stayed a top Attack Type choice until Flash and the Synchrome System parts overtook it.
- Released in Japan on July 16, 2011 with the BB-114 Starter Variares D:D.
- Released in western countries in January 2013 with the BB-114-FX Starter Pack Variares D:D.
- Variares has been compared to the Shelter Regulus Energy Layer released later in the Burst Series.
